Donor egg IVF - desperate for best foreign clinic recommendations! 🙏

Hi everyone, I pop on here now and then for a rant or to offer advice and support where I can but now I really need a bit of help if possible. My hubby and I have been waiting a year for our clinic to work out kinks with their frozen donor egg programme (we had faith in them so decided to hang on as it seemed worth it) but we’ve now just been told they’re scrapping it altogether and we’ll need to go abroad or join a waiting list for fresh donor eggs.

Trying not to feel devastated, let down, angry that we’ve wasted a whole year (I’ll be 43 by the time we get to try and should have done been doing it this time a year ago when I was 41!)

Wondered if anyone has recommendations for donor IVF clinics abroad? I know a couple of ladies I follow have had success with a clinic in Greece, so I would be so, so grateful for any direct messages with names for the best clinics...

Thank you so much, looking forward to hearing from anyone 😘 xx

Hey Claire, Ive PM'd you. Sorry to hear of your disappointment. Im actually of the opinion that fresh eggs are better than frozen so if you have this option I think that the success rates are better than buying frozen eggs.xx

Hi, from what I have read the best IVF clinics are in the US, but they are the most expensive. A few friends of mine and my sis have 1st time success with clinics in Poland, Russia and Spain. Good luck with your treatment.

Thanks alockie! Hopefully we'll find somewhere that suits us and be able to crack on in the next few months... xx

I am 42 and did donor egg ivf in Barcelona. I am currently 15.5 weeks pregnant. It took 3 tries, 1st was bfn, but I was so stressed I took time off work, did counselling etc. 2nd was first ever bfn with twins. However it ended in a managed miscarriage due to empty sacs. 3rd is now. Bfp and bump growing. My midwife told me that they have lots of ladies in their 50s so it's not too late. Will dm you with clinic details xx

Thanks Camillage and congratulations, that's so great to hear you've had success, but I'm sorry for the hard journey you had to get there. I've also had time off work with stress over it all, found it really hard :-( Will check out your message and sending lots of luck for the rest of your pregnancy :-) xx.

Thanks Clairenix, I'll check out your message for the details! Much appreciated xx

Hi don’t rule out uk clinics. We went abroad thinking it would be cheaper but all of the costs for flights/accommodation especially if you do two or three rounds made it more expensive. Also I needed tests in uk for hcg, progesterone etc which are expensive along with additional tests after miscarriage not to mention additional time of work and in our case communication difficulties. Although they could speak English sometimes the answers weren’t as full or explained as we would have wanted. Finally trying to get extra drugs in the U.K. was difficult if you ran out.

Just now wanted to give you some hurdles we faced which made going abroad significantly more expensive in the long run and more stressful with traveling.

Good luck xx

Hi snuggles144! Thanks for the advice. We’re looking at a couple of local UK clinics that do egg donor IVF also so will probably compare all the options. As you say, the cost and logistical difficulties of going abroad need to be taken into account too... I was thinking it’s crazy how this is one of the most difficult things we’ll probably do when for those without fertility problems it’s just a very easy (and fun!) thing. 😔 Xx

in reply to Claire_Mitch

I know it’s so unfair and nothing fun about any of it. It was for us less stressful staying in the uk as the additional travel etc was even less fun.

Good luck on your journey xxx

Hi, Claire. How are you holding up? TTC can be so tough. It's okay to have such days. Your age is definitely catching up with you. You should not lose the faith, though. Age is a factor in conceiving. However, ladies manage to conceive in their mid and late forties, too! So, you can, as well! You're doing the right thing by approaching foreign clinics. I can give you a few recommendations, too. Hit me up if you need advice. Sending you lots of love and baby dust. I really hope things work out for you. I'm rooting for you. x

Oh Claire, I am so sorry to hear this is how things turned out with your clinic. It’s been almost a year of waiting for us now too and I have a sinking feeling our clinic are also going to abandon their frozen egg programme entirely. I really hope you get some good advice here about other options abroad. Someone in our family had donor egg treatment in Prague and had success straight away. I’ll try and find out the name of the clinic and PM you later xx

Thanks for your kind words Dunla (sorry I’m only just getting round to responding!) Yes it’s rubbish, I’m so disappointed but also strangely pragmatic as I feel like I’m so used to things not going our way now that it’s just another obstacle :-( I’ve got some good recommendations for clinics in Europe from the ladies here and hopefully we’ll be able to proceed one way or another later this year. Sending you lots of luck for your journey, and hoping your frozen egg programme goes ahead really soon 🤞🤞🤞 xx

Hi,

Wishing you all the best going forward Claire_Mitch!

Wanted to jump on the band wagon somewhat to this group of lovely ladies. Can you guys also send me names of European clinics.

I’ve tried one in Cyprus twice. I hear Spain are good although pricey!

I’ve had natural late miscarriage, mild natural Ivf cycle in london, 2 cycles donor egg Ivf/icsi in Cyprus. I’m 47 now and also have intramural fibroids although small I feel it doesn’t help.

We have one more to give between us ( I must be mad) ....😝
