First cycle fail πŸ˜”

Hi, so I'm on day 9 of my 2ww. Had period symptoms and started bleeding last night.Has continued today. Rang nurse and she said it's more than likely my period. But I still have to continue on the crinone gel and do my test on Friday. Am absolutely gutted. Haven't stopped crying today. Had to leave work early as couldn't go through a day of pretending that I was OK.

Has anyone any tips on what to do now? We will definitely be doing it again. But will have to wait a while. I'm 40 years old so dont want to wait too long πŸ˜”

TIA x

Hi I am so sorry to hear about this - my last cycle failed and I started bleeding on day 8 so I know how devastating it is = especially having to continue with all the meds.I do have to say a lot of people bleed and go on to have BFPs so there is hope - did they put more than one back?

if it is a failed cycle I would recommend counselling and taking some time to grieve as I bottled it up and went a bit bonkers a month or so later. And definitely have a follow up appt and take time to ask questions about what could be done differently.

I am 41 so you have time! The main thing is to be healthy and have a positive mindset for your next cycle.. so don't rush into it if you dont feel ready. there is all an element of luck so just because this one didn't work doesn't mean you won't be looking at 2 lines and a BFP in a few months time

(PS good name - mine is normally Daisychain1977!)

Masses of luck xx

Thank you for your reply, Daisy.

I had 20 follicles collected. 12 responded. Only 2 suitable for transfer.I had a double transfer. No others were suitable for freezing πŸ˜”

I read your story? Congratulations to you! I'm sure you're over the moon! I see you too bled during your 2ww. Have never visited the toilet as much in my life! Just constant paranoia and dreading looking to see what's on the tissue! Also, sorry if TMI but on my first week had been getting the brown clumpy discharge, followed by pink on tissue. Had the sore boobs and bloating too. That all stopped then started with the period symptoms (day7) Havent stopped bleeding today. It's not overly heavy but there have been a few clots and that heavy pressure feeling down below.

Am not up to date with all abbreviations so hope I make sense tooπŸ™ˆ

Ugh, it's not fair πŸ˜” x

Euch I am so sorry. I asked about number put back because when I called the clinic about my bleeding they said it could be I was losing one that hadn’t developed... I don’t want to give you false hope but also want you to be inspired so it’s a balancing act. If you want to have a rant feel free to message me, I totally get it and also get the age pressures etc, I actually started the first cycle I could - basically because I needed to feel like I was doing something positive (I’m a control freak)!

I know what you mean about knicker watch and going the loo all the time. It’s all consuming IvF isn’t it 😒

I didn’t have any for freezing either first round and it was a day 2 transfer - 2nd round embryos were heaps better quality and we got 3 to blasto (none to freeze) I feel like your body learns each time

Sending hugs xx

HiDaisychain. Obviously you have to wait and test on the correct day set by your clinic. Maybe, one is hanging on there, so at the moment we just have to hope. Thinking of you. Diane

Thank you, Diane. Yes I hope so. But I haven't stopped bleeding, all day yesterday and today so far πŸ˜” Prepared for the worst. But I've still got a little bit of hope that one is still in there πŸ™πŸ€žx

Hi daisy

I'm so sorry to hear that. I also bled incredibly heavily on first cycle only 5 days in!

Second cycle we changed to cyclogest and I started bleeding mildly the day before otd.

I then upped my pessary dosage and bleeding stopped! But was too late by then.

This time I insisted on progesterone injections and cyclogest and my consultant agreed straight away and fully supported it.

So far I haven't bled at all even though I had some cramping and twinges past few days.

As we get older we produce less of oestrogen and progesterone normally anyways - so given your age I really do think they should relook into that.

Also - blood thinners and aspirin etc can help with good blood flow to the lining for implantation

So for the next time you may want to ask about that

Take time to heal and recover and hopefully you'll have renewed strength in the new year.

Or maybe you'll get your happy news on Friday! You may want to up the progesterone in the meantime anyway to see if it helps the bleeding. If it's full flow it might not be enough now but while you're still in the race who knows.... Maybe it is just one embryo that has degraded and the other one could do with some.help

My friend just had a massive bleed from the second sac (heavy gush of blood ) but the first sac is hanging on! xx

Good luck to you

Thank you. This is def something I will bring up. It's knowing where to go now after this! I'm not sure I want to do it here. I've heard Prague and Spain have good success rates. Definitely something I will look into. ✨ x

Hey, sorry to hear that you are going through this....happened to me twice in my NHS rounds using crinone gel. I asked clinic if I wasnt getting enough progesterone and they said that wasnt possible however on my next two private cycles I took 2x400mg of cyclogest and didnt have any bleeding so I believe I wasnt getting enough with the gel. Perhaps ask for extra support on your next cycle. Bug hugs, be kind to yourself.xx

Thank you. Funny a few people have said the same. I made the mistake by not doing too much research on IVF as I wanted to avoid the horror stories! Now that I know what it's like I'll be sure to do a lot more research. This is my first time, so it's free. (only get one free in Northern Ireland) so I feel like I'm just another tick off their list really. I've learnt more on here than I have done from the nurses. Where are you based?

I'm definitely going private next time, whether it's going to be in the UK or not...πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I think it'll be worth being in debt for life! πŸ™ˆ xx

I think I didn the opposite....never off flipping google! ha ha ha Im based in Scotland but having treatment abroad as we switched to DE due to not getting anymore than 1 or 2 blastocysts per cycle (I was 38/39 whilst doing NHS) so now doing treatment in Athens. Best of luck going forward, I always feel that researching and making a plan makes me feel a bit better .....along with a few well deserved treats of course.xx

Thank you! All I can say is go with loads of questions, write them down so you down forget either....think my Dr was a bit exasperated when I pulled my list out! Ha ha ha In some ways there perhaps isnt an awful lot they can tell you in all honesty. The success rates are not exactly on our side with a 30% chance of success. If you send DianeArnold a private message with your email address (click on her name above) and she can send you a list of questions.xx

I'm so sorry for you too. It's devastating isn't it? I started bleeding in work yesterday morning so had to leave and go home. Have decided to take emergency leave now until after Christmas. I didn't imagine it would ever be THIS hard. Age too I think puts more pressure on us πŸ˜”

Do you know what you want to do next? Some hugs being sent your way πŸ€—β™₯πŸ€—β™₯

Sorry to hear that your first attempt at IVF failed... I cannot console you from crying and pouring your heart out. Hugs for you! But I can tell you that your chances are always better over the second FET because all the inconsistencies and anomalies are somewhat attended to, over the first attempt... though it failed it probably made your body switch to get tunes to help conceiving and gestation. Stay optimistic and strong everything will be fine. Wish you all the luck in the world.

Thank you so much for your reply. This page has helped me so much already. I'm due to do my test tomorrow morning but know that it's going to be a BFN. Only stopped bleeding last night. πŸ˜”

Anyway that's good to know. Thank you for taking the time to write to me.

Hope everything is good with you.

Lots of love xx

Hey, how are you doing today? Sorry, I just logged back in today didn't get time over Christmas... well it's strictly family time. Hope you had a good one too... belated Merry Christmas! Hugs!! We all are here to support each other because it's the same evil we're fighting... the infertility.

What's the update of your test? Well, I know you have every reason to feel negative and it's only a psychologically defensive mechanism to get pessimistic when you've been through the odds. How intense was the bleeding? anything like a normal AF or somewhat light n short? It's never really a BFN unless you spot one right... the assumption doesn't work... not for BFP neither for BFN. 9-10 days into 2ww could mean it's not really the time for AF. Will look forward to your test result.

I’m so sorry Hun for u but u need to stay positive that will work . Four years ago we went through first ivf without knowing much about it. They collected I think 11 eggs went down to 5 . They transferred morula and blastocyst but nothing to freeze...we had BFN πŸ˜” It was really hard time to go through for us . We deal with β€œloss” in on way ...we couldn’t even talk about that with each other ...was really painful. So we give us self time to get us self back on track . I read and research for more info to make sure I know what I need to know and to prepare for next one . I think we took almost a year and when we felt ready we change the clinic and we start second cycle. That time they collected 5 eggs when down to 3 which I being left only with 2 so they transferred one and I got one in freezer. I felt more ready and positive this time round... my baby girl is now 19 months oldπŸ₯° im 38 so after seeing the doctor in us clinic doing AMH test we find out that my AMH level drop to 5.7 so we gonna leave my frostie for now and we gonna do fresh cycle. I’m happy but scared in the same time to go through that 3rd time . My mind is everywhere at this min ...I don’t know what outcome gonna be ...but I need to stay positive and hope that we will have little miracle again.πŸ™ Hun the ivf is so difficult to go through...we all different here but that one thing in common....this forum and people here help me a lot when I thought to give up .... U need to stay strong and stay positive good things happen to good people. Xxx

Hi Daisychain

So sorry to read your post but just wanted to pop up and say hang in there and stay positive. I have heard of many cases with friends where they have had a bleed and then gone on to get a BFP. In case it's not the result you are after, hang in there... My very good friend gave birth to gorgeous twins after her 5th attempt at IVF and she is 44 so there is always hope! I imagine the clinic will tell you to wait a month or two before starting another cycle? I have just recently had my second transfer (which unfortunately resulted in a BFN) and I know they said to wait until I got my next 'normal' period after my first failed attempt before starting a new cycle. Right now we are going to have a break from it and give our heads, hearts and my body a chance to recover before getting on the crazy ride again xxx

Lots of love and positive vibes to you x
