One fallopian tube

Hi all,

I have messaged on here before about my diagnosis with hydrosalpinx. Doctors have now said that my best option is surgery to remove the infected tube due to risk of ectopic.

This will leave me with only my right Fallopian tube. Does anyone else have only one tube? Did it affect things when trying to conceive? I’m still looking to conceive naturally but wondered whether this would take longer due to only being one or whether this does not affect conception?

Hello. I only have one Fallopian tube after having the left one clipped due to a hydrosalpinx. I have needed ivf to get pregnant due to severe stage 4 endometriosis but am now almost 33 weeks pregnant. My Auntie conceived 2 babies naturally with only one fallopian tube after one of hers was removed due to an ectopic pregnancy. Wishing you lots of luck xx

Mine are both blocked so I have to do ivf but I’m sure with one good one you shouldn’t have any problems, it just might take longer? As I think each month your body alternates between left and right to release eggs....is that right??? I would get your fertility tested though to see how good your chances are with one if you’ve been trying for more than a year xxx

I think so! I don’t mind it taking longer to conceive just praying that the other tube is ok xxx

I only have my left tube but we were told before that was removed we would never conceive naturally due to male fertility issues but my cousin had her tube removed last year and is pregnant now which was natural so it’s possible. If I remember correctly the ovary rotates each month so December it may release from your right ovary the jan your left so it’s a bit of a gamble to which one is releasing which month. Best advice my cousin got was to try every month as normal xx

Thank you yes iv heard it rotates so hoping that chances are still the same but it just takes longer. Sorry to hear about your struggles but thank you for saying about your cousin. It’s nice to hear that it can happen xx

I have been told by two consultants that if one tube is removed the remaining one compensates, so it is not really a 50% less but more of a 25% less. However, having a hydrosalpinx will make implantation much harder, due to the "leaking liquid", which also leads to inflammation, so you are better off without (devastating but true). I had my hydrosalpinx clipped, and now doing IVF because my other tube was removed after an ectopic pregnancy.

I heard about the leaking liquid which to me meant that even if I was to fall pregnant it would be difficult to enjoy the experience due to constant worry! The doctor said they are going to drain the hydro and remove the tube due to damage so hoping that it means no leaking if I was to fall pregnant. I hope all goes well with your IVF xx

Hi lovely... I have one tube as the other was taken away due to hydrosalpinx. I’m now 25 weeks pregnant due to ivf. I only tried to fall pregnant naturally for 2 months after my operation but decided that I’d still do the ivf and it worked. What’s the state of the other tube? If it’s clear and functioning the you can still try naturally but I know lots of women on here still did ivf too... good luck with whatever you decide xz

Congrats on your pregnancy! They say my other tube looks fine but are going to do a dye test to be sure. Praying that it’s fine and are able to conceive naturally but IVF is definitely an option if not xx

Due to two ectopic pregnancy's I had my left tube removed. In the last year i have managed to fall pregnant 3 times naturally, sadly i miscarriage twice but currently 10 weeks pregnant. Hoping this is it! Because i had a tube removed i was offered IVF on the NHS (although this may vary depending where you live). Completed one round but it wasn't successful.

When i had my first ectopic the hospital wanted me to have surgery to remove my tube however i took the medical route and due to this i had a second ectopic and had to get the tube removed anyway! Wish i had taken the advise the first time and got my tube removed.

It is worrying only having one tube but there are options and falling pregnant isn't impossible! Good luck.xxx

So sorry to hear all you’ve been through but congrats on your pregnancy! Doctors told me if I left it in then I had a 50% chance of ectopic so we have taken the advice to have it taken out. Just praying other tube is fine! Thank you for your wishes! Fingers crossed the next post I make is positive news! Xxx

Hi Jackson,

Hope you are well. I can't comment on your condition. Does it affect both tubes?

But having had a tube removed due to ectopic I asked my surgeon whether this would halve my chances to become pregnant naturally (which were already low, as im suspected PCOS).

"Not necessarily" was her answer.

Said something like it's possible for the healthy tube side ovary to become the dominant one. Maybe your doctor can advise?

Good luck with what you decide, Sweetheart

X

Thank you xx doctors said that with the operation the hydrosalpinx should be drained and therefore in theory shouldn’t affect the other tube. Hoping that my right one is fine so I can conceive naturally but definitely will speak to doctor about this when I have pre op xx
