Hello I’m Jeanietta. I’m 21 years old, I was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure at aged 15. I’m new to this group, as I’m getting older I’m starting to struggle with the idea that I will never conceive naturally! Anybody else here been diagnosed with pof? Xx

Hi

I can slightly understand as I was told this over the phone by a doctor who had obviously not looked at my notes.

I was only told when I was 36 though so very different.

Whilst it may be hard to even contemplate what this means, you do have age on your side. In that you still have young eggs - even if reserves a little depleted.

Are you at the point in life where you are trying? It is not impossible to get pregnant naturally with this. Just a little more difficult.

If you are not yet at the point in life where you actually are actively trying then, if I was you I would harvest what I could whilst they are still young. Then, when the time does come, if you are out or none left then at least you have the option.

Hope this does help. It is difficult to understand exactly but I didn't want to read and run xxx

Thank you for the reply! I actually haven’t got any eggs left, they all died very young as my ovaries did not develop throughout puberty as they should have! I am on HRT to help my womb grow as that was present but very small as this stopped growing aswell! My last scan was aged 19 my womb was growing which meant I could carry a child just not conceive naturally with my own eggs:) xx

Ahhh, ok. I now understand. So sorry if my reply upset you.

The only thing I can say is that personally I have now I'm gone down the donor egg route. To me, I had some eggs but they were kind of done and tired so the one or two we managed to harvest and fertilise did not result in a pregnancy.

For me the decision to use donor eggs was a no brainer. I would like a child, a young person for myself and my husband to love and raise (at least one). And preferably I would love to experience carrying that child through their early development (from blastocyst to birth). As I can't do that with my own eggs I am so happy that there are women out there who are so generous and willing to donate theirs.

So, I will do what I can to achieve my goal and if that means donor eggs so be it. That overrides any other thought or fear whatsoever.

Good luck and I wish you well.

Pm me if you would like to chat, this can be a long confusing and lonely journey xx

Hi Jeanietta

I was diagnosed with POF at the age of 14 and doctors told me, it is not possible to conceive naturally. Now i am 35yrs old going for my first IVF using donor egg. My advice to you is don't wait too long for IVF. I am also on HRT and can understand your pain.

Can you use donor eggs on the NHS? me and my partner went to visit the hospital recently, who just said to us, its not something that is funded by them?

How are you doing it?

Hi Jeanietta

I was on waiting list for egg donation for more than 3 years as we were unable to find a egg donor due to ethnicity and we went Spain for egg donation(IVF) and had my first IVF cycle and now I am 21 weeks pregnant.

Hi jeanietta. So sorry to hear this. A lot to get your head around as you are growing up. I was reassured to read that your womb has managed to grow so that you can carry a baby to term. Obviously, if and when you feel able, you will have to consider using an egg donor to have that baby. Lots for you to take on board at still a young age, but it must be good to know that there may be an answer to achieving a pregnancy in the future. Thinking of you. Diane
