Hello 👋

I wonder if any of you have heard the recent news from Cambridge IVF clinic?

They’ve recently done a study on frozen embryos and an increase success rate by 50% (?!?!).

I know freezing embryos isn’t a new thing but it’s interesting to hear that a clinic proved it is more successful, although they realise the study wasn’t very big to confirm that for sure.

Just watched it on ITV news... Let me know what you think! 😊

Yes, I remember they mentioned this. Possibly due to all the hormones used to stimulate the first round

When I had my last consultation at my clinic they said that they’d just released annual results and for the first time their frozen success rates were marginally greater than their fresh rates so it was something they were doing to consider. Given that the most promising embryos tend to be used first (assuming there is a choice and significant difference in quality) you would expect the fresh rates to be better so it does make you wonder what would happen if they were frozen.

Very true... I think that is a very difficult decision!

This is great news! :) x

Frozen embryo transfer has been shown to have greater success in women with PCOS but the article below discusses two trials in women without PCOS which showed no benefit other than reducing the chance of OHSS

My clinic is offering the efreeze trial which is referred to on the news video clip. If you enter the trial you will be randomly selected as a frozen or fresh embyo transfer. I have no idea whether to enter or not. The lady at end of the itv report pointed out the Cambridge study showed successful pregnancies but didn’t clarify the live baby birth rate. I’m a bit stuck as what to do! I think il try and do some more digging on the Cambridge website and see if they have any further info. 😬

I'm going with Cambridge IVF for my treatment and will likely choose the freeze all opinion that's been in the news. For my age group (<35), the pregnancy success rate for frozen transfers is 73%. I have a very high AMH, so I'm at an elevated risk of OHSS. I also have a mental health condition, so for me, it feels right to give my body and mind a chance to rest and a break from hormone treatment before putting the embryo back. Possibly a big factor in their success is their use of the embryoscope. It wasn't until they introduced this new technology in Jan 2017 that they began to see significant differences between Fresh and frozen outcomes. We're planning to start our egg retrieval in November. I'm happy to discuss further if anyone is curious.
