We had to wait 8 weeks at our NHS clinic but called for cancellations. X

For a follow up after a BFN?

in reply to

Yep! They kind of abandon you....at our clinic anyway.

We kept calling for a cancellation and got sooner...

So think Wednesday is not too bad.

We wanted to see someone straight away too.

Hope you are ok xxx

Bloody hell its so brutal

Our clinic didn't even do our blood test - all through the process they took our bloods in the clinic. But they sent us to the main hospital to do the blood test on OTD.

It seems very heartless......

I didn't really get many answers when I did have my consultant appointment.....

It was really bad aftercare

Xxx

Although ours was NHS, our hospital who also do private, you wait 6wks for follow up after BFN or MMC etc!! At ours tho, you also work out at that app’mnt your next start date which is usually only another couple of weeks after based on when AF arrives!

Hope you’re doing okay lovely, I know how tough it is!! 😢 xx

That is similar to ours....I wasn't sure whether it was just our clinic that made people wait....x

No the same with mine!! I think it’s cause ours want you to have two AF’s before starting again - the one with BFN & then one more so they time it around that!! I think!! 🤔 xx

Thanks, yes is total shit and being abandoned after the money we just dropped is a scandal!

We had to wait 4-6 weeks after each of our bfn xx

Ah we felt the same after our first BFN, we didn’t hear anything for two weeks then had to chase them! We finally saw them 6 weeks later and it was a wait I wasn’t prepared for.

I guess they might want to allow us time to grieve and get our heads around it all before preparing for the next step but like you I just wanted to move forward and maybe seek some reassurance.

Take this time to prepare as many questions as you can.

Sending you lots of luck for the next step xx

Oh yes the list of questions will be epic!!! I’m really not happy with how I’ve been treated to be honest not just with th shattering news but generally, sad really when all u want Is help and all they want is money !

It’s so hard, but yes, the wait is normal. I had to wait 6 weeks for our appointment after our last round. I hated being made to wait & felt like we were burning time again.

But then, looking back, it’s better. By the time our appointment came I had “recovered” emotionally and was thinking very clearly so that we got the very best out of our follow up. Having a clear plan really helped me, as you can start to look forward and positively plan, rather than grieve for past losses, and the follow up appointment is a key part of that process.

Wishing you lots of luck & I hope you get the answers you need xx

I’d say pretty normal time frame, my clinic is generally around a week, but you can normally have a conversation with your consultant over the phone sooner than that. I know it’s annoying but perhaps use the time to try and do something you couldn’t during treatment, be kind to yourself before you get back on the rollercoaster! Sorry you had a BFN, it is so bloody hard 🙁xx

Any idea what your next steps will be? Xx

Not sure, it’s money dependant to be honest 😔

That’s really quick compared to how long I had to wait after each of my bfns. I think it’s because the consultant appointments get booked up in advance whereas the nurse appointments you have whilst doing your cycle are more flexible.

How annoying, I had no idea the wait is that long.

I am still on my first cycle so no experience of this yet, but now I won't be shocked if I get a BFN and am made to wait. The waiting must be excrutiating though when you feel so sad. I'm sorry you're going through this xx

I hope it's a little reassuring that this is "normal", and not just your clinic being extra mean.

My clinic saw me two days after my bfn, I would be really unhappy with that length of time to wait.

My NHS clinic also has a 4-6 week wait for follow up. But I called for cancellations and saw them earlier.

I felt exactly the same on my first and now second failed IVF cycle. 1st one took 8 weeks I was devastated, like you felt absolutely abandoned. And this time I’ve had to wait 3 weeks which is a lot better than the 1st. I just want to get a plan back in motion, once you have that you feel so much better. It’s like your in limbo after a failed cycle till you speak to them, or that’s what it feels like for me.
