Husband left fridge open on hottest week of the year with injections in

As the title suggests, my husband has managed to leave our fridge open all night with the injections in. I’ve woken up and am completely devastated because they are not cold at all. I guess it must have been open about 8 hours.

Is this going to have ruined the meds?

I don’t know whether it’s the hormones but I’m completely devastated and my husband just seems to keep doing things wrong and upsetting me. And showing absolutely no real signs of being sorry.

I feel like the stress I’m going through at the moment is going to reduce any chances of success.

Any views would be really gratefully received.

Thanks so much xx

So sorry to hear about this, you obviously don't need the extra stress.

A few women have mentioned things like taking the drugs in cool bags on long journeys and it all seems to have worked out ok so it doesn't necessarily mean that they're ruined. Call your clinic ASAP as they should know what to do and best of luck.

What a nightmare, sorry u had that stress. My guess is it will probably be alright. It will have taken some time for things in the fridge to lose all the cool. At night the temperature is not so high. Def check with your clinic. My clinic told me my meds had to be below 25degrees so if that's the same for yours, it should be OK.

I bought a mini fridge just for my meds because I live in a shared house, with the instructions that no one else is allowed to use it! Which felt over the top but necessary.

Lots of love x

Thank you. The meds instructions says something about storing below 30 degrees but also says to refrigerate between 2-8 degrees. We’ve re-ordered the trigger shot but are relying on the 30 degree reference for the others.

I feel so upset and stressed. Just to top it off, it’s my birthday and I couldn’t feel any less celebratory.

I hope that your cycle is going smoothly. Sending lots of luck.

Thank you so much again xxx

Oh man - Happy Birthday, sorry you've had the extra stress and feel rubbish. Your erection is normal given the circumstances! Hope you feel a bit better as the day goes on and can do something fun to mark it x

I would contact your clinic my fridge packed up on my second cycle and they had to replace my trigger injection as the temp of this is very important all my stimms were ok. For our third cycle we brought a mini fridge just for all the meds. Hope you get it sorted xx

Yes we’ve reordered the trigger shot. Thank you for letting me know. How did you know that your stimms were still ok? Xx

in reply toLR16

I had to Go to my clinic and discuss it with a pharmacist and they said they would be fine xx

I’ve just seen this on another post:

It’s the birthday of Louise Brown the first ever IVF baby today too so that’s got to be a good luck sign eh?! 😊💕 xxx

Yes I saw that and thought the same 😊 Thank you for sending it over.

I can’t believe I am so stressed - I specifically told myself I wouldn’t allow myself to get stressed during this. Mind you, when the meds arrived, I also specifically told my husband to always check the fridge door was shut!

Praying and hoping that everything will be ok.

Lots of luck for your journey too xxx

No worries 😊

Aww, yeah, not getting stressed is much easier said than done isn’t it?!

Keeping my fingers crossed that everything is ok for you too 🤞🏼

Thank you 😊💕 xxx

Depends on what the injections are I think. I had bemfola this cycle and was kept in the fridge but it can be kept out of the fridge too - it’s just that once you take it out, you have to use it within a certain period which I think is 28/30 days. The same for the trigger. My current clinic delivers ovitrelle in fridge packs and it goes straight in the fridge but my last clinic handed me them at their pharmacy. They said that it didn’t need fridged once it was out of the fridge and again it had to be used in a certain number of days. Hopefully it will be ok but call your clinic to check x

Hi Ash

My injections are gonal-F, cetrotide and ovitrelle. G-F and cetrotide can apparently be kept out of fridge at under 30 degrees for up to 3 months. I am a bit confused about whether I should now take them out of the fridge (I’m reluctant to do this given how hot it is!) or to keep them in the fridge. I don’t know what temperature they would have reached but I guess it would have taken some time for them to go from being cold. Also they were still in the fridge, albeit, not at its usual temperature. I really don’t know.

We have reordered another supply of ovitrelle as apparently that one cannot be stored above 8 degrees. Plus I shouldn’t need that for a few more days so that shouldn’t be a bother to replace.

I think I’m just going to have to hope that everything will be ok. I have another scan and bloods on Friday so presumably that will flag if any of the meds isn’t working. My bloods yesterday were apparently fine and I was told to stay on the same dosage of G-F so am praying that my body will continue to do what it needs to do.

Thank you for getting back to me xxx

If they are already in the fridge then I guess no harm in keeping them there. It’s never straight forward is it😂 good luck with your cycle x

No it’s definitely not! Thank you again. And I hope that everything goes well for you xxx

Hey there, you poor thing! I know exactly how you feel. During one of my cycles our fridge went haywire and froze some of the contents! I was devastated. Particularly as my prescription always cost the guts of £2000. Thankfully I just had to replace the trigger shot as the nurse at the clinic said it was the most volatile of the drugs. Ring the clinic you’re with and be advised by them. Hope you get this resolved sooner rather than later to give you peace of mind xx

Thank you - yes we’ve reordered the trigger shot. Apparently the gonal-F and cetrotide can be kept below 30 degrees for theee months and should not be re-refrigerated. I’m now in a quandary as to whether to take these out of the fridge now or leave them in, given how hot the weather is.

Fingers crossed everything will be ok. Thank you again xxx

You’re welcome. I think I’d probably leave the other bits in the fridge as you say. I’m sure all will be fine. Good luck with your cycle xx
