Hi, I have a question. I had egg retrieval yesterday and I received a leaflet saying if large amount of eggs are retrieved, I need to take 1.5-2L clear liquid above the normal intake. That would mean I will have to have 4L liquid a day. Now, the question is what sort of liquids are classified as clear liquid apart from water?

Anything you can see through when it’s in a glass. Eg herbal teas, some cordials, lemonade and non-cloudy apple juice (although be careful of the sugar content). Xx

Thanks for your advice...
If you are drinking 4 litres of water per day, make sure you spread it out as 4 litres in a short space of time would be enough to cause hyponatremia (where you blood sodium levels fall too low as you are over-diluted). It’s most common in endurance athletes but worth knowing about.
Personally I stick to no more than half a litre in an hour, maybe a little more if I have been on a long run and am slightly dehydrated.
I just had a pre-op and in the clear fluids you can drink before admission time it includes weak squash and black tea x
Clear liquid in terms of Diet refers to any food that turns to water like liquid in room temperature. Besides a glass of juice and tea, oral electrolytes count as well. The clear liquid intake is basically advised to counter dehydration which happens during extraction... the more the numbers of eggs the greater is the dehydration. Also, broth can be an easy inclusion to cope with the extra 2L. Do not clutter it with meat or vegetables though, keep it as light as possible.
