Thinking of using donor eggs instead of my own whats everbody ivf choice???

I got to speak to the nurse at the nhs clinic for advice on donor eggs this fri as at first I was thinking of using my own but now im in 2 minds not sure whats the best.

Ive gone for donor eggs after doing a few cycles with my own. My reasoning being as we felt like we were flogging an old horse and finances cant allow for this to continue. We got 3 blastocysts from my own egg cycles....out of 3 although you can discount the first one as something went wrong. I was 38/39 at the time with an AMH of 7.19 and got between 6 and 9 eggs on cycles and even tried DHEA to improve things and I think it did. However the consultant said my eggs were poor quality due to my age. If w had an endless amount of money would I have tried a few more cycles with my own, probably. However after moving onto our first cycle of DE with got 6 top quality blastocysts from one cycle which was amazing! This confirmed what our NHS consultant told us, my eggs were rubbish and although there is no guarantee for pregnancy, as feel like we have a much better chance as the success rates are much higher now. Good luck with what you decide, its a hard decision to get your head around. I guess you could explore both options with your nurse and go from there!xx

Hi Lucky it’s such a hard one but you need to look at your egg reserve and hormones. At 42 I gad my first egg collection - 29 eggs and 3 out of 7 embryos were genetically normal. Egg donation isn’t always as easy and smooth as you’d expect and I had more success with my own eggs before and after we tried egg donation. We went to Spain in a v respected clinic but ended up with 3 failed cycles and 2 chemical pregnancies, one cycle using a healthy 19 yr old donor produced 7 embryos all genetically abnormal. We then went to the States and used my own eggs and had success first transfer first cycle 🙏🏼. I do know many people who have had success with egg donation but be cautious, do your research and keep an open mind xxx
