Random MMR question

Hi ladies, just looking for advice.

Before I can start treatment my clinic asked that I have a test to see if I’m immune to MMR.

I assumed I would be but apparently I’m not and now I need to be vaccinated! Not sure how I missed out on it!

Anyone else have this issue? Does the vaccine work straight away or do I need to wait a while for it to kick in.

Im so annoyed, every time I get close to starting treatment something new seems to pop up 😩

I had this too, not sure how old you are but I had the rubella jab when I was about 11 so assumed I’d be ok, but apparently you can become resistant to the vaccine.

We were trying naturally at the time and I’d booked my MMR with GP surgery but I found out I was pregnant 2 days before I was due the jab so had to cancel it. They told me you abstain for a month after having jab as it’s a live vaccine and can harm foetus, so when you have it you might have to defer treatment if you were planning it sooner. Midwife told me it’s so rare to get German measles these days so she wasn’t concerned I wasn’t immune while pregnant. Sadly I had a mmc but I start IVF next month and still haven’t gotten round to getting MMR as we wanted to try naturally a few months before treatment in case it happened again, luckily as I’m cycling overseas they haven’t asked about MMR immunity. X

Thank you so much for the advice.

I’m 35, we must have missed out on the second jab for some reason??

I phoned my clinic and they said I need to wait at least 4 weeks before I can even go in for my CMV test too to make sure the vaccine has worked through system.Really annoying because we now can’t finalise a donor for at least 6 weeks. Just when I thought we were moving forward at last 😔.

Sorry to hear about the mmc. I hope your treatment abroad goes well xx

Definitely worth getting. Rubella has seen a rise in cases over the past few years. I was 6 weeks pregnant when a member of my staff walked up to me and casually told me his daughter had rubella. I started bleeding a few days later and you can imagine my panic. When I went to the EPU I was quarantined away from the other ladies there. Great work from the nurses really. I'd completely forgotten my rubella immunity had come back clear a year earlier! X

That must have been terrifying to hear that someone had rubella when you were pregnant. I take it that you and the baby were ok?

I have booked in to have it next week-better to be safe that sorry I guess.

Thanks for the advice x

Yes we were both fine, thank you. There are so many scary things when you finally do get pregnant, for one I have never known so many people have slapped cheek (pavovirus), I'd not even heard of it until we were with our first specialist! Anything you can do to reduce those fears a little is well worthwhile. Good luck with your donor, I hope you get your little miracle too x

This showed up on my bloods before my first round of icsi. I know I had the vaccines when I was younger but apparently some people become resistant to it. Anyway I was advised to get it again - it’s two doses about three weeks apart. It delayed our first cycle but I’m glad we did - there is enough to worry about already!!! Good luck xxx

Oh no, I thought I only needed one. Oh well I guess I’ll find out on Thursday when I go for my first one. Thank you for the advice x

Hi,

Also I have to do the two dosis. I had to do a blood test after the first one and the result was negative, so I had to do the full treatments and the other dosis to become inmune... I was angry at the beginning because I was supposed to start treatment in Feb (and the clinic could have checked on that in when I first went in September) and so the IVF was delayed until April but at the end it is better if you do the right procedure.... I’m now 8weeks pregnant so if the treatment works it is worth to wait a few more months! Good luck!!!
