How many rounds of IVF / ICSI has everyone had with their own eggs ? (Not including frozen ET)?

Ive had 2 rounds of ICSI. Now in 2 minds whether to go for a 3rd (hoping 3rd time lucky) or move to donor. I swear if i was rich i would keep going with my own eggs until it was successful! Just wondering how many rounds others have had and if you have had your BFP? If i ever get a BFP i swear i will be the happiest woman ever!!!! I think about being pregnant every single day from the minute i wake up until i go to bed! 😀😂Xx

My daughter wasn’t a good responder and never produced lots of follicles. The dr advised her to have donor eggs. They wanted to have one last go with her eggs. She is now nearly 10 weeks pregnant . Just wanted to share our experience xxx

Thanks Gilly. Did your daughter have 3 attempts? I havent got anyone to talk to about IVF so i come on here. I feel I'm on my own with this now. Partner has had enough and said hes not throwing any more money at it. We tried and thats that. In the meantime im saving like a mad woman to try again. Mum said she thinks i should move on now too as i have a 12 year old son already. Its so hard. I havent told anyone about the IVF only family and one close friend. The price ive been given now for tandem cycle in Cyprus comes to £11,850 and thats before flights and hotel. Feeling completely deflated at the moment X

Her first cycle was nhs and she got her BFP. She then was going to have a frozen FET but the embryo didn’t survive the thaw. She then had a fresh cycle but only produced 2 follicles so that got cancelled. She then started to have acupuncture and produced 6 follicles and got another BFP but unfortunately she lost the baby before 5 weeks so classed as a chemical. It was at this stage the dr advised a donor egg but they didn’t want to go down that route so they tried again, again having acupuncture to help. She got 5 fertilised eggs with 2 making it to day 5. Now nearly 10 weeks pregnant we are so thankfull. Hope all that info helps. When she lost her baby on the 29th December, she said she still had the fight in her to do it again. Her baby is now due on the 29th December, the same date 💙💗💙💗xxxx

Wow congratulations to your daughter. What a journey. I hope the rest of her pregnancy goes smoothly. I feel in a daze with what to do next but i know i cant hang around forever thinking about it. Im also thinking of having one shot at IUI with donor sperm. But im sure the hospital will talk me out of it! With my age etc X

Why are you thinkin of going abroad, is it cheaper than here because that seems really expensive. Has your OH got a problem is that why you are thinkin of IUI xx

in reply toGillyc1

Hes got azoospermia. We only have 2 straws of his sperm left. So we can only have ICSI. I was recommended donor cycle in Cyprus and the secretary emailed me the costs today and its so dear i cant afford it. I was told it was cheaper than UK but clearly not! I dont know whether to try IUI at £700 using donor sperm incase theres a problem with partners sperm, pay for donor abroad which has higher success rates than UK or try again with my own eggs. Out of 6 eggs last time only 2 fertilised but both failed to implant xx

It's so difficult to make these decisions isn't it :( I've had 4 cycles of ICSI and after cycle 3 and never more than 5 eggs collected and no great quality embryos I was ready to try donor eggs. So we had all our tests redone which showed no deterioration in amh etc from when we started, and I had implantation tests to check for any problems and got a recommendation for Clexane support, short protocol, and also a recommendation of DHEA to help egg quality if we wanted to try again, so we decided to try one more time. We got 6 eggs, 2 top quality embryos and I'm now 11 weeks and feeling like the luckiest person in the world. It might be worth speaking to a consultant again to see if they would recommend any tests or changes based on the outcomes of your previous cycles, if you haven't done this already? This might help you to decide x

in reply toSarah_S

Yeah i had DHEA and did acupuncture for my 2nd round of treatment. The DHEA worked massively as it improved my egg quality. We too had 2 great looking embies and a 3 day transfer but both failed to implant. I would like to be tested for implantation though and im interested in having the scratch. My partners sperm has never been tested but he only has 2 straws left. Xx

I had a scratch as well. Just a warning that the implantation tests are expensive :(

Ok thanks Sarah. Its something for me to consider x

I got a sheet of all the different tests my clinic does, and one set of tests is specific to discover any implantation problems. If you are interested PM me and I'll send you the sheet x

Hello! I've had one private cycle of ivf on short protocol, got 6 eggs, 5 fertilised with 3 making it to day 5, I had a 4ab transferred but no implantation and the other 2 didn't make it on day 6. I've got low AMH for my age. Recently found out I've got the C4M2 variation and will be taking clexane on my next cycle. We are hoping this is the cause of my issue with implantation. We are going for icsi on our next cycle (although OH SA was fine, this is to make sure the best are picked) and I've just had an endo scratch. Now ready to start my next cycle in June xx

Good luck Annie hope it works this time Xx

I always got a good amount of eggs, but fertilisation wasn’t great, and then on round 4 they all fertilised brilliantly, best rate yet we were over the moon, but. then on day 5 they all arrested. At that point the senior embryologist told me that realistically my eggs were the issue, and a bit scrambled (my words not his!) so I’m currently on our second DEgg transfer. Our first transfer ended in a chemical pregnancy, so close but no cigar! So hoping 6th time lucky! 🤞🏻

Like you if I had all the money in the world I probably would have had another shot with my eggs, but sadly there’s not money tree in my garden 🤦🏼‍♀️😔xx

Fingers crossed for you 🤞🤞🤞

Hi there, we had 3 rounds of ivf with donor sperm as my DH was diagnosed with Azoospermia. My DH thinks it’s a waste of money and we shouldn’t do anymore. I did Look into tandem but decided on embryo adoption as it’s half the price. I didn’t want to save all that money doing tandem and getting a negative so opted for embryo donation as the embryo will be from younger donors and if it’s a negative, we will be offered a second transfer for only €700.

in reply toSkybid

Ive never considered embryo adoption is that in the UK? X

No it’s in Prague, not sure if it’s something they offer over here?x

Hey Hun..it’s so tough. I had two fresh rounds on nhs then one fresh round private. Our third round was our best response. We got 4 5 days blasts and got our first ever bfp on our 2 nd frozen transfer sadly we recently miscarried however as I get older and progress on this dreadful journey my response gets better, we have one frozen left and I asked our consultant what if that didn’t work and she recommended another fresh transfer with my own eggs. If you still believe and think you have it in your for another fresh then I say go for it..good luck xxxx

Hi there,

This is a really tough one as I suspect the results people have are highly linked to the nature of infertility, age and the quality / type of treatment people have.

That said, some stats suggest people need 3 cycles to maximise chances of success, so if I were you and you can save the money, I’d go for it! Unless of course the doctor you have dealt with is suggesting chances are low, but you don’t mention this.

In terms of my experience, I am 6.5 months pregnant, having just turned 40, from my second IVF cycle. I have endometriosis, which is why we struggled to conceive naturally. First IVF was on NHS. Viewed it as a trial-run following a BFN from fresh transfer, and decided to store the remaining 5 day 3 embryos the Trust froze - didn’t get a choice on whether to grow to day 5 which would have been my preference. My second IVF was private. I responded better as my treatment was tweaked based on first IVF. We got 7 blasts and following a miscarriage on fresh cycle am now pregnant from 1st FET. We have 4 blasts left.

Wishing you lots of luck.

I did 3 fresh cycles and like you if money wasn't a problem then I would have kept going longer. We have moved onto DE in Athens which was reasonably priced. Had 1 unsuccessful transfer but have 4 frozen top quality embryos in the freezer.xx

3 fresh cycles with my own eggs. 2 in the uk and never got pregnant. The 3rd one was in Poland and I miscarried at 9 weeks. We need to know make a decision if we should move to egg donor as I only get 1 good egg each time. It’s so hard to know what to do x

in reply toJustus1

Yeah i have low fertilisation numbers so thats why im seriously considering tandem so if my 1 or 2 embies dont implant ive got young donor ones to fall back on xx

Ya we had dhea in this round and that’s one I got pregnant with. We need to decide now what to do, and I’m so unclear. We said if this didn’t work we would try with egg donor. But now I did finally get pregnant and had a really great embroyo we are so confused.

1st cycle was a BFN

2nd cycle - the 1 solitary egg collected failed to fertilise.

3rd cycle - 4 eggs collected, 2 fertilised but failed make it to transfer.

We got told after that cycle that egg quality was a real issue and that we should consider donor eggs. The problem we had was that for cycle 2 we had signed up to 3 cycle refund programme with Access Fertility so had we had complete a 4th cycle to get the refund in order to pay for the donor egg treatment in Spain.

So cycle 4 we now have a BFP and I'm currently 6 weeks pregnant!!! I added in micronized DHEA and CoQ10 (Ubiquonol) for 3 months and 100% convinced that made the difference with my eggs!!! x

in reply tolorraineb61

Thats amazing news. We opted for the multicycle (2 cycles) with Access Fertility as we were convinced 2 would be enough however they werent as we had none to freeze either. We cant do the 3 cycle refund one as im now 40 😓. Looking back maybe we should have gone for the refund option and paid more xxx

lorraineb61 in reply to

My OH wanted to go for the refund cycle in cycle 1 but I said no because I was convinced that the 1st cycle was going to work!!! Then I took a lot of persuasion to go for it in the 2nd cycle too but, now, really glad we did because we wouldn't have done this 4th cycle and would be heading for donor cycle!! x

in reply tolorraineb61

Its too risky now for me to pay for another cycle using my own eggs in the UK. If it fails a 3rd time i will be completely wiped out financially. At least if i throw all my money at a tandem cycle im giving my eggs another chance and a donor too so doubling my chances. If it fails again at least we can say we exhausted both options. Im also considering have one IUI with donor sperm first before the tandem. Its £700 but if by miracle i get caught out on that ive saved myself £1000's Xx
