This is sort of unrelated to TTC/IVF. But I want to go back to working in a job I love. Focusing on IVF has taken me away from that and I’m now in a position where I am at a career-crossroads. I want to explore something different (I’m currently a project manager but really don’t enjoy it).
I just wanted to ask on here: what careers are you all doing (that you love!) - I’m hoping it sparks some inspiration for me!

Also a project manager but also Pilates instructor on the side. Finding PM rather stressful, would like to train as a meditation teacher. What would you like to change to?
Thanks Kari55, I’m not really sure, I think that part of the problem. I love the company I work for and would hate to leave but in the years I’ve been here I’ve worked in a few departments now and there’s no where else left to try!
I was Head of Performing Arts at a secondary school, and now I’m a freelance tutor/artist and wanting to train in art psychotherapy. I loved teaching but the government and IVF ruined that!!!! Xx
IVF ruined teaching for me too!! I felt so guilty when I'd miss lessons (and angry that it created so much extra work for cover and marking) for appointments. And then when I was low, behaviour went to shit!
But I've just got a little part time job as a Science Technician at a local school (I was a Science teacher...). Will see how it goes!
Oh my god yes that’s exactly it! The guilt was just awful. my 6th formers made a formal complaint because I’d missed 10 days after my miscarriage and D&C, and the school told me to apologise!! I’m glad you’ve found something less awful! I’m doing some homeschooling in Knightsbridge which is truly how the other half live! And a few drama and art workshops which is lovely, but the pay cut has been a bit of a shock! Xxx
I work as a waste contract officer, also doesn't sound very sexy but I really like it. No stress, very easy and I only work 20 hrs a week, so fit in perfectly with ivf and now pregnancy! I did an environmental degree while in my last job but originally trained as a designer so would love to combine the two, but waiting patiently for the next 6 months or so to get myself in the right frame of mind 😊
P.s. I've been looking into things I could possibly do on the side so having been doing a few short courses, mainly in complementary therapies. I'm doing mine online on the centre of excellence, might not be good enough courses for full accreditation but gives you a taster and they are cheap. Just a suggestion if you're interested xx
It’s funny you say that, a LOT of friends and people I know have trained as complementary therapists. One is doing acupuncture and another reflexology. It might be an idea to do a short course such as yourself, just go get a flavour for trying out something new. Thanks! x
Yeah worth a look - they do everything on there. I'm currently doing a course in nutrition and another one in CBT. I'd like to do an aromatherapy one next
I support victims of domestic abuse. Can be super tough but incredibly rewarding. Unsure if helps my ivf journey but wouldn’t do anything else at this time. Best wishes on ur journey🙌🏻😁☺️
I do the same Dreamingofbaby. Sometimes it can be stressful but my manger and team are super supportive. I love trying to help people on their journey to live without violence or abuse. Everyday is different!
Oh totally agree it is ace. Glad u got a supportive manager. That helps a. Mine too is v good so lucky there. Def a rewarding job to do. I do the training side of it too to other professionals which is also great ☺️
I am also a PM in the pharma industry (pharmaceuticals) but I am freelancing so I do smaller jobs when I want. Around my health. And take a few weeks or months off in between.
Yeah i couldn’t think of anything else to do, but! Saying that I want to learn graphic design so I can do that from home too!! So I can do both PM or graphic design work. I found a online course and will look into it soon. With PM it’s mostly office based, but still looking for home based work when And where I can.
I am an account director for a large international it company. I love working with my customers and especially around the innovation side. However it is a very demanding and stressful job. This year I took 4.5 months off to de stress, re-set my mind and body and help my mission. This time we got our very first bfp which was amazing. Sadly it wasn't meant to be so I am currently back at work and awaiting my next round. X
I’m a nanny and I love my work. I have however taken a job that I’m not really enjoying but it gives me time to focus on ivf which has taken away some of the stress. I am with school age children so have all day off when they are at school. Not looking forward to the school holidays though!!!!!
I'm an Account Manager for a very large global company that sells popular brand of power tools & fasteners. I basically quote on stock availability & load orders & help customers with a LOT of queries. My colleagues are the main thing I love as we're all as bat shit as each other!
Hey! I can relate to this. I am also at a career crossroads and had redundancy and IVF coincide. Looking at it positively and a chance to change both aspects of my life - result baby and new career. Best case scenario.
What has helped me is doing things I love in my spare time. I volunteer on an exec board and run a small charity. Keeps me fulfilled and helps me while I have the hard task of finding my day job.
I work in PR & Communications for a utility company. Doesn't sound that exciting but I love it! My day can range from, dealing with the press on a major incident eg people without water after a main has burst, doing water themed workshops in local schools, telling customers /councillors /community groups about upcoming engineering works to replace old water pipes or organising guided tours of our treatment works so customers can find out where their water comes from.. And much more! X
