5 day Embryo transfer and back pain

Bexy79 profile image

I had my embryo transfer on Tuesday and today I have started to get back pain and what feels very much like period pain... I know that no one can predict the outcome for me. But i wondered if any of you ladies had experienced back pain 3 days after the transfer and what were your symptoms during the 2 weeks before the test?

Thank you xx

I’m on day 6 after my transfer! I’ve had back pain, a pain on my left side which lasted a day, headaches and I’m quite bloated!! I’m hoping these are all good signs but could be symptoms from the pessaries too xx

I read up on the pessaries... but can they cause back cramps? I think I expected wome pain through the implantation period... there was nothing. But now day 3 I got what ferl like period pains. Do your else ferl similar to a period pain? Xx

I’m not sure actually!! Think there’s all sorts going on in our bodies right now!!

I had the pain in my stomach on the second day after transfer so was thinking that could be implantation pain but who knows!!

Xx

I had no symptoms at all except back pain. It was unbearable some days and I got a bfp......unfortunately just lost it at 9 weeks and having it removed next week. Don't read too much into your symptoms each of us are different x

Hi Bexy79, I’ve experienced back pain with both transfers. I believe it’s a symptom of the progesterone your probably taking. Both times I was convinced my period was coming and no period but sadly no bfp either, which makes me think it’s the progesterone. Although, I’ve heard it could be a symptom of implantation as well. Best of luck to you xx

I'm sorry to hear that. Are you going to try round 3 or are you having a break at the moment... there are many ups and downs throughout tge whole process xx

I’m starting round 3 tomorrow, so feeling quite anxious about it. It is definitely a roller coaster of a journey

Thank you appreciate it! Mine have been all back to back because I want to take advantage of the implantation cuts. They only last 4-5 months so we are trooping through x

Hey! Yeah the transfer went smoothly, got one Embryo on board! 😊 I noticed last night that my boobs have gone all blue veiny is a side effect of the drugs? I don’t know xx

Hello Bexy79. I can relate to your post a little bit. I had a 5 day transfer on Wednesday 21st March 2018 and my test date is this Tuesday (eekkk). On the Friday evening after the transfer, I woke up at 2.45am with cramps (which was quite similar to period pains). I've also had lower back pain and a lot of sharp twinges. The cramps have been on and off, I've also been feeling very bloated these past two days (think this could be down to the pessaries I am taking).

It's all so confusing.... let me know how you get on... yeah every symptom you analyse!!! Xx

I will do 😊. Is this your first cycle? How many embryos did they transfer?

Bexy79 profile image
Bexy79

Yes my first cycle... only 2... but luckily both were good ones. What about you? My back pain is quite bad... I'm in bed now. Just feels like my period. But I'm still hopeful. The process has been ok... Meds and scans fine egg collection slightly painful after. But embryo transfer was the hardest. I drunk too much water and she actually told me to go to the toilet and release some. But i I didn't listen. As soon as that little embryo was in there I was out in a flash to use the toilet. I'm sure everyone feels the same. But all these things are worth it. Xx

Hi lovely, I had what felt like period pain about 6 days after transfer and some bleeding. I sobbed...and was convinced it hadn’t worked.. 2 weeks later, the test was positive! It had been implantation bleeding!! I didn’t realise either that being pregnant, you actually feel like you’re going to come on your period for literally the whole first trimester, with cramps etc! I’m now 19 weeks pregnant. Sending you lots of love and luck xx

Bexy79 in reply toEmma51

That's great news... my pains are strong. I hope it'll be alright. Wow 19 weeks that's amazing. How exciting!!!!! Xx

This is my second cycle. My first cycle was unsuccessful 😔, this time we have had ICSI. They transferred one embryo as it was a very high quality one, we also had some frozen from this cycle ☺. The cramps seem very normal, I've not had any cramps since Thursday now. It's been a very long 2 week wait! I know when Tuesday comes, I will be very nervous to take the test 🙈. I've not had any spotting/bleeding but everybody is different. How are you feeling today Bexy79? When is your test date?

Congratulations Emma51 on your pregnancy!!! It's lovely to hear successful stories 😊.

I feel ok thank you for your message. I just literally feel like I'm getting my period. I normally get strong pains beforehand so perhaps this is that. I hope not. I've had no spotting or bleeding. How are you feeling? The temptation to test early is driving me mad. But mine was only Tuesday. My test is next Sunday. Are you tempted to test yourself? If not good.. you have strong will power Xx

in reply toBexy79

I don't think your period is on it's way, just try and hang in there. I'm feeling okay today, I'm very tempted to take a test but I'm also nervous so I'm just going to wait till my test day (not long now).

Yours is so close... I bet this is the worst bit... trying to keep busy and not incessantly looking stuff up on the Internet xx

in reply toBexy79

Just try and keep busy to take your mind off it, I know it's easier said than done. I went back in to work the day after my transfer so I wasn't just sat at home thinking about it. Which clinic do you go to? If you don't want to say, that's okay 😊

I'm at St Mary's in Manchester ☺. They have been brilliant!

Hiya, 3 days after your transfer I think is a bit early for period pain. You didn’t say if it was a day 2 or a 5 transfer? If it was a day 5 then you’re on day 8 which is around the time I started experiencing pain with both my pregnancies. Usually if I’m going to bleed it happens later like day 13 just before or around test day but everyone is different. Pain isn’t a negative at all, with both my successful pregnancies I found I had more pain than when it failed. Progesterone can cause pain and so can the after affects from your egg collection so it’s hard to say for sure.

Hang in there, it’s not over until test day x

Bexy79 profile image
Bexy79 in reply toSnottyCow

Thank you so much. My transfer was 5 day. What were your pains like? Why do you think yoh experience them around that time after transfer? Were they quite strong? We're you tempted to test early? I know it's pointless because of false results but did you wait? The eggcollwction was quite painful afterwards. Sorry a million questions xx

SnottyCow profile image
SnottyCow in reply toBexy79

I had back and stomach pain and was very crampy, sometimes to the point of being double over.

Yes I always test early but there is a method to it. I worked through most of my tww’s so I never wanted to be caught out by a bleed when I was in a meeting or with a client, so I tested from around day 10 or 11. You’re still a little early and a negative now would just upset you so don’t yet.

Get a very good test for your first test (I wouldn’t recommend digital but clear blue are best) and always the first wee of the day, even if it’s 5am (husbands love that lol). Don’t be alarmed if you don’t get a positive, some people don’t until way after test day (apparently) but in my experience there was the faintest of lines from about day 11. I would then buy cheap tests from Amazon for about £5 for 5 and use them daily or every other day so I can watch the line get stronger, I’ve had a few chemical pregnancies too so I never take an initial positive for granted. If the line gradually gets stronger throughout the week THEN buy a 2 pack of clear blue digital and use them 1 a week after test day and one 2 weeks after. This will give you reassurance when you see it say 2 to 3 weeks and then 5 weeks plus. Then you only have around 2 weeks to wait for your scan.

If you see the line get weaker at any point (as long as it’s the same test as the day before) it’s more likely to be a chemical pregnancy which is so very hard but the sooner you know the sooner you can start to heal.

That’s my survival guide lol, you might want to devise you’re own but after 8 year and failed rounds galore that’s how I got through.

Best of luck xx

That's great advice... so def to early to test now... if i got a negative now... would it not count? You're a foundation of knowledge thank you so much. Do you have any more tips? Xx

I had my day 2 embryo transfer on wednesday, 2 back on board. I am having mild period like pains too, on and off, but no back pain. Also some sharper pains, but as collection was only on Monday then I think some of the pains are from that. This is my 4th cycle of ICSI and I'm on Lubion, Inhixa and pessaries. The 2ww is so hard. No answers for you, but I hink I'm reading too much into every twinge and just need to relax. Fingers crossed for you xx

Hi Nana02 I’m new here!I just wondered how you got on as it’s my first ICSI cycle, I’m day 3 post 5 day transfer and having some pretty bad pains in my back and side! Just trying to see if there’s anything to worry about :) Thanks

Hello I had that too, for like two days and then it stopped and the pain went more to the ovaries... and I was wondering about if it is normal, my doctor told me to not think about it much but... Well here I am searching for some clue all over the internet... It is really challenging to go trough these two weeks without thinking about it... Could you find out what was the reason?

Cazzab2020 profile image
Cazzab2020 in reply toamorfe

Hi Amorfe I’m in the same sorta boat and just wondered how you got on! I’m day 3 of my 5 day transfer (I think, I get lost in all these stats 🤣) today I’ve developed pretty bad bloating, pain on my left side and lower back.... it is at times difficult to move. It is similar to the ectopic pain I had in January however it’s on the side where my tube was removed so has some surety it’s not that...... the hospital said it might be OHSS however it’s a bit late .... I’ve done the same and scoured the net but still not sure!

I have similar symptoms. I’m on fourth day from transfer, hope they’re all good signs 🤞🏽
