IVF using donor sperm success after failed IUIs

Hello, this is my first post. I’m just wondering if anyone out there has had successful IVF with donor sperm after failed attempts at IUI? I’m struggling to keep faith that things will work out for us and need some advice on how to try and get into a positive mindset ready to begin our IVF cycle. Is there anyone out there who can help? Thank you.

(Also I’m 30, we’ve been TTC for 2 years).

I’m afraid I don’t have any success stories but just wanted to say good luck. We are just getting ready to try IUI with donor sperm x

Thank you - fingers crossed! Good luck to you too. How are you feeling about it all? X

It feels slightly surreal really to be shopping for donor sperm. I keep waiting for my OH to completely panic about it but we have no choice if we want a baby.

How about you? Have you tried a few IUI if you are moving to IVF now? x

Yes I know how you feel. It’s a lot to get your head around isn’t it. We’ve decided to look at it as though someone was donating a kidney or a heart; an amazing gift that allows you (fingers crossed) to still fulfil your dreams.

Yeah, we just finished our third unsuccessful round of IUI. I was really hoping IUI would work for us but it wasn’t to be. We’ve decided to move onto IVF now. It’s a massive emotional rollercoaster so we’re going to have a little break to re-group before moving forward again.

I was looking for some inspiration on here to help me get back into a positive mindset! X

Yeah I’ve decided to try one unmedicated IUI and then move on to IVF. The consultant pointed out that my fertility had never been tested as my OH has never made sperm and so I’ll give it one shot.

That’s a really good way to look at it...there really isn’t much difference I guess, it’s just a donation.

There are so many positive stories here where IVF has worked, I guess the donor sperm issue is just an interesting quirk on the normal IVF process. We can definitely do this 😀 x

Sounds like a good plan. We can indeed :) x

Hi there,

I’m doing it on my own so used donor sperm. My clinic recommended xytex. I’ve had ivf and had 14 out 19 eggs fertilised 6 using ivf and 8 from icsi (clinic wasn’t confident so recommended doing half on icsi). 9 made it to day 5 one back and 8 frozen. Currently 6 weeks pregnant.

Good luck x

That’s amazing!!! How reassuring to know that you have 8 frozen for the future too. Congratulations :) Did you try IUI before? If so, how did the IVF compare to your experience of IUI? X
