So yesterday we went for our first consultation, I was left a little bit empty to be honest. We are starting IVF as my husband is just coming out the other side from cancer and this is a massive next step for us.
We weren’t given any clue as to what to expect or time scales.
We were given umpteen blood forms for tests and just told to do those and come back in a month. I understand all of these tests need to be done but I thought there would be more discussion. Maybe I want more because it means so much.
What can I expect from the next meeting if all of my tests are ok?
Thank you.

So sorry to hear that your husband has been going through cancer but good to hear he's coming through the other side.
It depends on your GP and or the hospital/s you get referred to. All of my initial testing was pretty quick (that was a few years ago now) what slowed me down was needing a laparoscopy because after I had that, I was told to go and try naturally for 6 months. I was also over weight and had to get BMI below 30. Once all that was done, it was a case of waiting for referral to the hospital which took around 8 weeks. After that I had to wait for 3 cycles so I could be accepted for treatment.
We have bypassed the GP as my husband is already a patient at the fertility clinic. So our fist meeting was with our consultant.
I am going tomorrow to have all of the needed blood tests and also a smear so they know I’m clear before starting. They have booked us in for a months time but I don’t know what will happen then. My weight is fine and we can’t try normally as the treatment has made my husband infertile so hopefully that will help things a bit.
It’s just the un-known, wev has so much stress and worry over the past few years I just want to be able to cope with all of this with out stressing to much as that won’t help things at all. Xx
