I wondered if anyone has used donor sperm from the London Sperm Bank and how you feel about it?

Hi Bexy,

I am looking to use London Speem Bank in the upcoming months but not looked into it yet, have you read something to put you off? X

No nothing has put me off... the one thing that I would say is that there aren't that many donors on there... maybe 30 at one time... I wish i had known this before now as you can buy it a month or more in advance and therefore have more choice as the system chances frequently... I suppose depending on who buys and if new donors donate.

They are really good if you have a query... I emailed them and they caljed me back within a few hours xx

Hi bexy79,

We used the London sperm bank. Absolutely incredible. They liaised direct with the clinic, we just needed to sign paper etc. So easy.

We were originally going to use the California cryobank but our clinic refused to work with them as they weren’t fully compliant with regulations etc (I think it was a resolvable issue but non the less took our clinics advice)

The London sperm bank have an app to help choose your donor (but in all honesty it’s a bit clunky to use.).

The quality of the sperm accordingly our embryologist was excellent and we got 8 5 day blastocysts from it. (7 are now frozen)

Let me know if you have any questions , happy to help

X

Years of think I have to buy through the app... the clinic doesn't organise that part... but i wanted to ask about CMV I have read up about it and know how common it is. But did you pick a cmv negative donor... was this important to you? Also there aren't many to choose from... before this I thought there would be hundreds of donors. But i dont think many people get through tthe whole process. It is all quite overwhelming and I'm not sure how to pick on such little information. Bug I guess you just have to go for it!? Xx

Honestly, we didn’t worry about the cmv bit.

We were very restricted donor wise as my other half is ginger. Wanted to emulate that so had the grand total choice of 2 ginger donors, one of which was a restricted donor that we couldn’t use !

I think the best thing to consider is which traits are most important- physical, personality, likes dislikes etc. For us it was the ginger hair and fair skin, closely followed by a love of music. Work out together what you priorities are and filter that way. It’s never easy and you’ll never really get to fully understand who the person is or what they are like. Take your time to make sure you are both happy with the decision and then don’t second guess yourselves xx

I I just read your post that is amazing news... I'm just getting used to how this forum works.

Yes it's hard knowing what to pick on such little info. But i guess you just have to go with it and we are so lucky to have this option nowadays.

How are you feeling...? how exciting. Is this your first try? xx

Hey ladies, I've just searched for CMV and this post popped up. So apologies now for high-jacking your original post!

We're going to be using a donor egg, I've been tested and am CMV Neg, all donors that are available are CMV pos! (Typical!)

What's made you not worry about your donor being neg or pos?

My hubby insists on waiting for a neg donor to appear, I'm not fussed (bit like you!) Don't want to pressure him as it needs to be a mutual decision. Just wondering your thoughts on it.

Thanks :-) xx

Hi... I think the response was addressed to the other lady... but i hope you don't mind me answering... I have read quite a lot about cmv... I'm sure you have too... but i think that if you are negative.. then it's best to go for a negative egg donor as you don't have any antibodies to fight the virus... I think in an ideal world of course negative is best. But you only have the cmv positive options. The fact is so many people contract the virus or have it or can contract it when pregnant anyway... so you're probably thinking perhaps to just take the risk and use the donors available. Considering how many people have the virus and how many people have babies without problems... and from what I've read the health risks are low. But still there.. this message probably hasn't helped at all. But i understand your husbands reservations. It's already quite a stressful process.. so you want to do everything correctly.

How often do new donors come up and have any cmv negative donors come up in the past few days?

Xx
