Finally at top of IVF list πŸ˜€

That's me finally made it to the top of the IVF waiting list at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. I have the appointment to sign paperwork and have routine bloods done. Anyone any idea how long between that appointment and actually starting treatment? The closer I get, the harder the wait becomes!

Good first question to ask at your appointment! I’m not sure but I think it may vary for everyone as we had various appointments and procedures over a few years. Good luck xx

Congrats! It’s an exciting time.

It will likely depend on what tests/ scans etc they may want to do before treatment starts and their availability of appointments. Then it will depend when your next period is due and whether they put you on a short or long protocol. When I have been for the nurse appointment after having consult with Doctors I’ve usually started a short protocol on my next cycle. Good luck!

Thank you!!! I know I'll get a scan again, they scanned me last time to check for Hydrosalpinx and they said they'd check again before starting. I also think they'll do my AMH again, last check it was 18.7 which would mean short protocol but the consultant said they'll likely test it again because it was done last April, I really hope it hasn't gone lower. How many rounds have you had? I have a really demanding job and I'm worried I'll struggle, does the treatment exhaust you? I'm already exhausted with ttc but just hoping I don't get too overwhelmed with it all.

Hi. That’s wonderful news. I think every clinic is different. We had our consultant appt at the clinic on Monday of last week and that’s where they told me I had low amh. We are awaiting an appt from the nurse team to discuss my treatment plan. They would start me on a long protocol and much higher doses of meds. The hardest bit is the waiting. I completely empathise with you in that you feel so close and yet so far. I am 7 days into my current cycle and believe they would start my meds on day 21 of my cycle. We are eagerly awaiting the post every day for an appt for our treatment plan. I called the clinic yesterday to be told that they probably wouldn’t see me to discuss my treatment plan until March and then order my prescription and see me in April to start treatment. I am finding it increasingly frustrating and it feels like we are so close but so far. I came off the phone and I could have cried. If I had let myself I probably wouldn’t have stopped. So I do empathise. Have they given you any rough dates? X

I can totally understand why you felt so upset, the wait is awful and it just gets harder the closer you get. Is this your first ivf? We could end up being ivf cycle buddies! My amh last April was 18.7 but they said it'll get checked again because it was so long ago, I'm praying it's not gone below 15 and also that my tube isn't Hydrosalpinx, they said they'll check that again too because if it is I'll need to get it clipped. It wasn't Hydrosalpinx in November so fingers crossed!

Jojo8311 profile image
Jojo8311β€’ in reply toMolly28

Yes this is my first ivf. Is it yours? What is hydrosalpinx? Cycle buddies would be fab x

Molly28 profile image
Molly28β€’ in reply toJojo8311

Yep it's my first... eeek!!! Hydrosalpinx is when a blocked tube leaks fluid. The fluid can kill the embryo. Apparently it can happen at any time with a blocked tube but a scan can show it. If it's there then I'll need surgery again to clip it but I didn't have it at the time of doing the lap and dye, it was just blocked, and I didn't have it at the scan in November so I'm hoping it hasn't developed since then because it'd just hold everything up plus I'd hate the idea of my tube being clipped, even though I know its blocked.

Thank you everyone, the info is very useful and I really appreciate the good wishes. I'm so looking forward to just getting started but I'm feeling so impatient too! If I can wait all thus time then I can hold off just that little bit more.

Thank you Lurain! My journey started 2 and a half years ago with an ectopic where I had a tube removed. It took us 8 months ttc when we had the ectopic. We then tried for a further 8 months and couldn't get help because doctors kept saying I could get pregnant so had to be patient. Then I saw a doctor who agreed to refer me to the local infertility clinic. We had all the blood tests etc and all was fine so then I had a lap and dye which found my other tube blocked so here I am awaiting ivf. I don't know all that much about ivf but I'm sure I'll learn so much over the coming months. Where are you on your journey?

That's so exciting, I'm wishing you loads of luck! My appointment is this week where I'll be given the paperwork, never thought of asking to have it posted out. I've just got this horrible feeling it's going to be well into March or even April before I get started. I always expect the worst but I really hope I get to start sooner, would love to have a cycle buddy πŸ˜€

Hi hun, we had an appointment at Royal last week basically just to say we would get 1 round and now on another waiting list until what he thinks at least Aug time. How long did you have to wait inbetween your 1st appointment then making top of list? Not sure if we should just go private or wait :S xx

Molly28 profile image
Molly28β€’ in reply toama4

Hi,

We waited 3 months from that first appointment but that was including it being backdated to September when the referral was written from my referring hospital, I was initially at Monklands Hospital. It was 5 months in total from being put on ivf waiting list to reaching the top. We then waited 5 weeks from our 'top of the list' appointment to signing the paperwork (usually only 2/3 weeks but they were busy) . I only signed the paperwork 2weeks ago and got booked in straight away for my first cycle, I get the first injection next week. Why are you only getting one round? Did you know there's a FB closed group for Glasgow Royal IVF? I joined it about a week ago and it's been great! Xx

Good luck hun πŸ’• I'm sure it will all start to happen very quickly now! Getting that referral through is such a relief isn't It! (I think I cried lol!!) Xxx
