Does anyone have any success stories of IVF working with own eggs at age 43?
My clinic have told me that the odds are very low for me as my eggs are probably too old but no tests have been conducted to check the quality of my eggs. I have however had 3 natural miscarriages and 1 failed IVF cycle.

I’m 42.5years and will have an 8th (!) egg collection in Feb/March. No success so far. This will be the last I think. Everyone is different and I have read of success stories at 42 and 43. Best of luck x
Hi, I conceived naturally at 39 which tragically ended in stillbirth at full-term in 2020. We started IVF last year in February 2022 (unexplained secondary infertility).
I had 4 fresh transfers; all failed and I am now pregnant with our first ever frozen embryo transfer at the age of 43.4.
***These transfers were all using my own eggs***
I had a day 3 transfer as I felt my uterus is a better environment than a dish. All 3 embryos survived the thaw (frozen at 2pn - day 1), 1 did not survive to day 3. So I had a double embryo transfer; one stuck and I got my positive after 7 days on frer and easy@home (5 days if it was 5 days transfer).
Please message me directly if you would like further information.
Rowan80 , I don’t have a super positive answer but I just wanted to share some love this journey is tough if for whatever reason you end up trying I 40’s. I can’t share a happy ending but I did falll pregnant with my first ivf at 41 in Feb last year. Sadly our little boy had Downs and was born sleeping just shy of 20 weeks. I went on to have 3 more ivfs but none of those have worked so but I have ended up with embryos to transfer on all of them (never any good enough to freeze). In between all that, 2 natural pregnancies ending in miscarriage and one missed miscarriage which end up in surgery this August. I am now 43 and teetering on giving up or considering doner embryos before it is too late. But it is so hard when you know you still have eggs. I wish you all the best if you decide to try and if I can offer any support feel free to message.
Londonlady2024 , huge congratulations on your pregnancy, your post has touched my heart at this. Tough time of year. , I have messaged you privately, hope that is okay.
Love to all of those trying and on this journey.xxx
Hi. I’m sorry you’ve had such a difficult journey. I’m 44 and had two IVF cycles with my own eggs this year, but they were both unfortunately unsuccessful. You can test for the ‘quantity’ of your eggs (ovarian reserve), but not the ‘quality’. When I had my fertility MOT at the beginning of this year, my AMH and AFC were pretty high for my age. And then when I had my two cycles, I retrieved 16 eggs and 12 eggs respectively. However, most of my embryos sadly deteriorated after fertilisation - which was a sign of my poor egg quality. Although you can’t test for egg quality, you can carry out PGT-A testing on any blastocysts - to check whether they are normal before they are transferred. Have you considered that? Wishing you all the luck in the world ❤️
Hi Rowan80, yes I have a positive story to share. I am 44 and currently 11w3d pregnant with a tested euploid embryo from a cycle that I did when I was 43. The sonographer who scanned me a few days ago told me she had a natural pregnancy with twins at 43. Wishing you best of luck!
Good morning Kazbzzz, congratulations for your little one. You gave me some hopes. Do you mind sending me the list of supplements you took. Thank you in advance.
Congratulations! I am 41 in Jan and on round 3 (retrieval due end Jan, two days after birthday!). I would love to know your list of supplements too if you don’t mind. Thank you so much 😀
Hi there, thank you for sharing your story...would you mind listing those vitamins on here so that our fellow over 40s can view them rather you being bombarded with messages. Thank you 💞💞💞💞
Huge congrats Kazbzzz, thank you for sharing your story. I’m sorry to be another person to ask but would you mind sending me your supplement list also 😊
Hey all, so the supplements they advised were as follows- I’m definitely not a doctor, this is just what I was given.. who knows if they made a difference..
L’arginine
Astaxanthin oil
Myo-inositol complex
Coq10
DHEA
Melatonin
can’t remember doses but have a Google there’s info out there about each one with regards to egg health..
Hi there. I have a positive story. When I was 41 I had a missed miscarriage (natural conception) at 6 weeks. I then tried IVF at 42. Only got one blastocyst due to having very low AMH. This blastocyst was tested but abnormal so we didn’t transfer. Did another round of IVF 6 months later. Got one (untested) embryo which we transferred at day 3. This failed. Then naturally conceived at 43. Pregnancy ended in a missed miscarriage at 8 weeks. We were told that due to my age and low AMH I had a less than one percent chance of conceiving either through IVF or naturally. Decided to move on to donor eggs. The day before my 44th birthday which also happened to be 3 days before starting the frozen transfer of our donor egg conceived embryo I found out I was pregnant. We expected this pregnancy not to work in light of the history but we’re blessed with a healthy little baby boy in January. He’s eleven months now and asleep next to me. Although it’s rare to get pregnant at 43 it can happen. I wish you the best of luck on this journey. I know how tough it can be, X
Hi. I had a successful IVF at 42 with endometriosis stage IV and one tube removed. I had a surgery for endometriosis prior to the IVF. My husband, same age, had no issue. My AMH at that time was 1.3. I have now twins.
Ah, and I got pregnant at 44 naturally, never happened before🤷♀️
If you had miscarriages, especially at early stage, need to do more genetically tests and mandatory to test your husband .
Do you know why it’s been difficult for you to conceive? My issue was ovulation, though medically it was “unexplained” 2 years TTC nothing. Tried IVF and 39 & 41 have had 2 first round miracles. We had a vanishing twin with my first but medically our journey has been just pinch yourself lucky. Emotionally, still had its ups and downs while going through it of course. Good luck, it can happen, my boys are living proof xx
Hi Rowan, I got pregnant using my own eggs at 43. It was my second egg collection cycle, I got 4 eggs that time, 2 were transferred and I also had a vanishing twin one made it to my little 8 month old. First round I also had 4 eggs, 2 transfers, first one was a mc, second failed to implant, then had a round after that which was cancelled and converted to an iui due to poor response before ending up with my successful round.. so it can happen. I had taken dhea, melatonin and a host of other supplements prior to the successful round but for that one I think I mainly look impryl and maybe folate. There were many times I thought it wouldn't happen for me especially as my amh was under 1 but glad I persevered.Wish you the best of luck xx
I’m 44 with low AMH. We decided to use donor eggs as we were told the chances of concieving using my eggs was unlikely. I’m now 17 weeks pregnant on the first go of ivf.
hi Rowan I got pregnant at 43 with my one and only egg transferred fresh on day 3 first time doing IVF I done low dose stims due to family history of oestrogen cancer. He’s not a perfectly healthy 16 month old ♥️
hi there Rowan80. In 2020 I got pregnant on my own at 42, and had a miscarriage. My husband and I decided visit the local IVF clinic. We had some tests done, and my levels were good. After one round of IVF. Our doctor harvested five eggs and zero fertilized. We were then told, I was too old as I would be turning 43. I did not want to use donor eggs. And my doctor told me that I would never get pregnant. My eggs were old. And she told my husband we were completely futile. Fast forward Two years, and my husband and I moved to Portland in the US. My job had good healthcare, so we tried IVF again. My doctor did tests on me, she informed me that if I had come to her at 42-43, I would’ve had babies by now. And now that I was 44 there was only about a 5 to 10% chance of it working. So I started one IVF cycle, found out I was pregnant after the first implantation. I have a frozen embryo in the cooler. And the most beautiful Little cherub of a baby boy. He is now three months old and the light of my life. FYI I use my own eggs, and found out I was pregnant right before my 45th birthday. I wish you the best of luck.
Awww wow, amazing, positive and hopeful success story. Thank you so much for sharing. Rowan80 So glad you created this post which will hopefully give our over 40s users hope using own eggs. Don't give up ladies 🌹
Hi Roman80, success at 43 is possible although the odds are very low. I was given a 5 to 10% chance at 43 with a relatively good AMH for my age. I got a BFP a few weeks before my 44th birthday with my own eggs. I now have an almost 2 year old daughter.
Clinics can do a test for ovarian reserve but not for egg quality. As women we have are born with all eggs and obviously they age as we grow older unlike sperm that is reproduced.
Lots of women like myself resort to supplements like CQ10 to improve egg quality- perhaps there isn’t not enough scientific evidence to back up some but we all do what we can to give ourselves the best chance of success.
