Sorry for the gross question but just wondered if anyone has any advice please.
Our dates were changes for egg collection so have kind of messed our plan up a bit. The written guidance the clinic gave us states that for an optimum semen sample hubby should abstain from ejaculation for at least 3 days but not more than 7 days prior to egg collection.
With my collection date now being early thursday morning if my husband "goes for it" tonight then it will only be approx 36 hours until he has to give his sample at the clinic. If he abstains tonight it will be more than 7 days by the time thur comes round.
Does anyone have any idea of what would be best in terms of quality. I know waiting longer can help increase volume of sperm but that waiting too long can produce more redundant sperm :/
My hubby would probably die of embarrassment if he knew I had posted this π
How is everyone else doing?
Thank you! π

Oh that's a tough one especially when you had planned for a different day. I would have thought the fresh sample as the older sample may well not have many healthy sperm left but ultimately I'd phone the clinic to get their advice. The embyologist will know best and Im sure they get asked questions like this all the time, even if it is mortifying for you or hubby....they wont bat an eyelid!xx
I agree with probably phoning your clinic for the best advice but I think the fresher sample would be better as leaving it over 7 days the sperm wonβt be as healthy and ultimately you want the best chance. My clinic say a minimum of 2 days xx
Thank u ladies for all ur advice. Bit the bullet and rang the clinic. Wasnt as embarrassing as i thought it would be so thanks for pushing me to do it. The advice is longer than 7 days is too long. Best to know! Hubby will be busy after work π xx
Hey don't be embarrassed, it's what they deal with every day! Once we accidentally miscounted days before my OH had to give a sample, but I think the only thing affected was the sperm count which technically doesn't really matter as there is millions of sperm in just a tiny drop, the motility, shape etc all gave exactly the same results. BTW, my husband says he thinks giving his 'sample' is like the most surreal thing he's experienced, but never said he didn't enjoy it. Lol!!! π
We were told that the sperm needs to be released shortly before my last injection but better to check with the clinic. Iβm sure they get all sorts of questions all the time
