ICSI - First time - Short protocol

Hi everyone ๐Ÿ™‹

I had my last appointment at the Hewitt centre mid December where we signed all the paperwork and consents etc. We have had the letter through to ring and pay for the drugs prescription which I will be doing tomorrow if they are hopefully open.

I just wanted to check this is correct... today is the first day of my period, I have a drug administration appointment on 10th Jan. The nurse said I'll start them on day 16 which will be 2 days after my appointment so the Friday 12th. Does that sound correct? Also on the short protocol am I right to think I'll inject for 2 weeks?

I'm just trying to work out rough dates to fall in line with work / book time off? Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Emma xx

Iโ€™m not sure thatโ€™s correct... if you are on short protocol, you usually start your stimulation drugs on day 1 of your cycle / period. If the clinic are busy they may ask you to take the contraceptive pill for a couple of days (which keeps your hormones at Day 1) until they are ready for you to start. Iโ€™ve just been through short protocol and it basically follows your natural cycle - stims for first 2 weeks then trigger injection around day 12-14, egg collection on day 13-15 (which should be when your normally ovulate, depending on how big your follicles have gotten) and then egg transfer either 3 or 5 days after collection. Then itโ€™s welcome to the 2 week wait club and before you know it, your test day has arrived!

Good luck with everything!! ๐Ÿ˜˜

Thank you for your reply.

I'm going to ring them today and check this out, I thought I hadn't read anyone else saying this. I hope the nurse hasn't got this wrong ๐Ÿ˜ณ And I miss this months cycle ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Hi, I have done short protocol at same clinic. I think you start with norethisterine on day 16 . I took them for 10 days then after bleed started stimms x

Hi Gem

Yes this is correct. How were you with the treatment?

Any words of advice?

Xx

I honestly found it all ok. Didnโ€™t really get any side effects so was very lucky. I only had one scan and everything was looking ready for the egg collection which was scheduled 48 hours later. Make sure you drink plenty of water through the process. Good luck to you Iโ€™m sure you will be fine! X PM if you have any questions.

I have just spoken to the clinic, it is correct the process they have told me. Each clinic does things slightly different but basically the first part of my drugs is a tablet to stop my normal cycle. Glad I got that clarified.

Is anyone else starting soon?

Hi Emma, have my first planning appointment on 2nd Jan. 8.30am so first appointment of the year! Not sure what to expect and which protocol they will put me on. Did you go privately if you had to pay?

We're also ICSI xx

Hey ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ

We are really lucky and have got 3 attempts on the NHS so not paying fingers crossed it all goes to plan.

Iv just rang and paid for my drugs today but everyone has to pay for that regardless. Xx

Wow 3 goes that's fab. We get 2 but are Wales and all out prescriptions are free (good for us but I don't agree with). Do keep me updated on your progress as would love to know how it all goes xxx

Oh really... how mad how much it changes from place to place, the prescription only cost ยฃ45 to be fair, I'm guessing we will need more though.

Will definitely keep the forum updated with my progress etc, were not telling a soul so I'll go crazy otherwise ha

Let me know about yours too x

I'm at the same clinic and started norethisterone on day 16 for 10 days, wait for the bleed, have a scan then start injections if all is good.. I think they try not to bombard you with too much info in one go and tell you step by step as you go along.. Good luck ๐Ÿคž xx

Ahh ok. Some tablets for 10 days then stims for how long? X

EleJen profile image
EleJenโ€ข in reply toEmh89

10 day stims for me but depends on what your scan looks like at that point.. I found it a bit of a nightmare with work because some of the appointments happen at short notice but totally worth it hopefully! xx

Did you tell your works? I'm really in 2 minds what to do as I don't want to tell anyone really, we both want to keep it as private as possible but I know it could cause issues with needing time off? Xx

No I didn't tell them.. I told my manager that I was having gynaecology investigations as she kept asking questions.. I think she was a bit embarrassed at the mention of the female reproductive system and she hasn't mentioned it again haha! xx

Really haha... and she's female ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™ˆ

I'm going to try and do the same thing! Less questions to answer the better. How's your process going?? X

Really well fingers crossed ๐Ÿคž I got a BFP and tomorrow I get to have my viability scan.. I'm excited but nervous, I just want it to be OK, trying not to get hopes up until we see it! Hope you have a smooth journey through it all xx

Im doing short protocol right now!! Second time icsi. I was to call hospital when i got period 25th dec to be exact!! They made appointment for me which was today where again i was put on pill until 19th jan. Then im sure i start injections 25th can't remember 100% but definitely thats when nxt appointment is. Hope that helps !! I also know that different clinics do different ways/treatments. Mines is obviously to suit me.. last cycle was great, reacted well to short protocol as im abit high risk for over stimming (altho i never last cycle) but got a good number of eggs , obviously wasn't outcome we wanted but we'll try again. Good luck xx
