Starting ivf

So after 3 years getting me to the point of being able to have ivf (had my tubes removed and one ovary) I have just received my medication for short protocol and didn’t even realise how much there actually would be. Am hoping my appointment on Friday will put my mind at ease when I know when am starting and how to do it. Did anyone else feel this overwhelmed by it all?

I felt really overwhelmed when I received my drugs! I have also done short protocol as well.

I had 2 drugs to inject on a daily basis

Trigger shot

Antibiotics for post EC

Progesterone for post EC

It all made a bit more sense when I went through it with the clinic!

I also found that I was given about 400x as many needles as I needed!

Can I ask how long did you wait to start it after you received your medication and how did your find the short protocol

I think I waited 6 weeks after receiving meds on my first round because I had to postpone a month and then on this round I only had a couple of weeks to wait because I timed purchasing my drugs just before AF was due.

The first round I had gonal f and I found the drugs really easy, gonal f is so easy. I think I took drugs for about 13 days the first round and they made me feel quite lethargic and towards the end I felt really bloated, which is not surprising considering they got 19 eggs!

Second round the doctor changed me from gonal F to Menopur and that was a bit messy, it felt like a challenge. I took the injections for 9 days! On the second go and got 10 eggs. The change was due to high quantity low quality eggs on the first round. The second round I felt a bit emotional and got mild headaches, but I think because it was so quick I didn’t have much time to think about symptoms!

I’m jealous of you doing short protocol! I have had my drugs for long protocol delivered today and there are so many that they’ve given me three sharps boxes! 😔

You’ll be fine once you get started, there are probably spare needles in there and you’ll get the hang of it all in no time x

Hey, I think the unknowing is the hardest part of this journey and I hope you joining the forum and going on Friday will be able to answer any questions you have. I found once I go going everything seemed to make more sense but unfortunately the over whelming feeling has never completely gone away for me xx

Yes I felt very overwhelmed when receiving my prescription for first round of ivf. However nurses will talk you through everything and teach you how to do the injections etc. They’ll give you a detailed break down of what meds you need to take each day and a copy of this schedule to take home with you. They’re always at the end of the phone throughout your cycle to help with any questions or concerns you might have. You’ve already had a long road to get to this point, wishing you the very best of luck for your cycle x

I’m four years down the line now and have four failed cycles of ICSI under my belt. To be honest it’s been incredibly difficult in so many ways but we haven’t given up hope just yet. We are having one last attempt in January 🤞🏻
