Hey all,

please help me. I am so lost ..

I had my GP appointment today to cross check with my Thyroid TSH level and painful Intercourse. My doctor was very nice and had some examination and she says I could have Vaginismus , Dyspareunia. I asked is there any medication for it, she says no and gave some printouts to read.. what do I do? anyone heard of those scary name?

I also asked my TSH was 3.96 with my last month result , she says its normal and Ok to conceive. I interrupted saying BTA has level <2.5 for successful conception but she keep saying its untrue and you have normal TSH and not to worry.. I just don't know what to do.. I need to google and understand it but before that thought of asking here..

can someone pour some advice so I can have my rest of week normal..

Can only say in my expirecnce with thyroid is that my gp won't accknowlege that thyroid has anything to do with not been able to conicive and miscarriage, but my clinic is totally on the ball and wants it below 2.5 , there is a thyroid group on here that might be able to help you with advice more. Maybe print some of the guide lines out and present it to your gp.

My gp laughed in my face and told me my consultant was wrong when I told him what my ivf consultant had said, since this the consultant had wrote to my gp stating what he wants and I always get my results printed and take them to consultant.

Have you been refered to a fertility clinic? Xx

No I have not refereed to a fertility clinic..I am going to private fertility scan this Thursday as I know my GP would take ages to refer one..I seriously don't know how would i convince them my level and get prescribed. I can pay for my tablets ,I just need the prescription. oh i don't know how much that would cost again, I saw somewhere its cost 200 per month? Am so freaking out coz of this..Every time i go and I get the same reply from GP..I have blood test again on next Monday, let me get the result and beg again,.,..Thanks for that.

you want your TSH low at 1.5. Consult with the website stopthethyroidmaddness. either com or org. This is probably one most important marker that can help you against miscarriage. Not all docs are in line with thyroid research and can create a lot of harm. xx

oh what I do? This is my 2nd doctor in my GP saying that my TSH is normal and not related for conceiving ..Thanks for that

I presume you have done research on the website that was recommended.

Unsure about the thyroid issue but I too was diagnosed with vaginismus when I was about 18. Basically it’s a fear response, and is usually associated with some sort of abuse/trauma although that wasn’t the case with me. Basically it’s your muscles tightening and you need to teach them to relax. I was prescribed some vaginal dilators which helped a little but the whole experience was strange to be honest! Hope you get some answers and help soon cx

Oh I was looking dilators online . Am looking to buy one , does it helps ??? Thanks for your message .

I was prescribed them. They did to be honest, it just all felt a bit weird to begin with. It might be a subconscious reaction to the stress to do with your journey to conceive? I’m not sure xx

Ya I on TTC and every single thing pushing me back , thyroid and now painful intercourse. I don’t know how I am gonna deal with it . I am so stressed already . You got from prescription?? Oh are you in Uk ?? My GP didn’t say anything about it and she says to read some article . I think I can go back and ask to prescribe???

Rachwithers in reply to luv2017

Bless you, you will deal with it. I’m overwhelmed by how strong lots of women and men are on this, and I’m sure you’re the same. Yea south west, UK. Yea maybe, might be worth a go? I imagine they’re expensive otherwise xx

Ya it’s bit expensive, but I don’t know why GP is not prescribing anything on first place . I just have to wait to get an appointment. Ok let me book one and ask to prescribe. I saw one on amazon for 44 pounds but I don’t know weather I can just get and use . Thanks for your replies ..

You should be able to, they’re not difficult. You start small and work your way up. Insert them and leave them in for a while to allow your muscles to relax and then move up a size x

My fertility clinic have put me on thyroid meds before we start our next round!! My TSH was 4.07 so not too dissimilar from yours!! The way they explained it to me was I’m borderline under active - had I not been going through treatment it would be considered normal & left!! However going through treatment they want it <2.5 so they are trying to stabilise it before my next round!! I’m also in Scotland!!

I’d def speak to your GP again or Fertility Clinic. x

I asked thrice and with 3 different doctors so at least any one can listen to me . But no one did . I am thinking to ask just to prescribe so I can pay for it but that might be rude ??? Or don’t know they can’t prescribe like that ?? I booked private Fertility scan in Edinburgh, can I say to them ?? Can they prescribe ??? I have my blood test report .

I doubt the private clinic where you're having your scan will be able to prescribe hun. It will have to be your GP, NHS consultant or private clinic. Have you been referred to the local hospital yet? They might be more helpful with more experience in the fertility field.xx

luv2017 in reply to Cinderella5

No I have not been referred any hospital. I have my next blood test on Monday and let me see what’s the level and chase again . Thanks for your thst

Leo2017 in reply to luv2017

I wouldn’t have thought the private clinic would prescribe, but I’m not sure!!

My fertility clinic spoke to my GP and told them what they wanted them to prescribe for me & how often to monitor me - report the bloods back to them etc!! x

I suffer with vaginismus and it has been quite challenging at times. My GP offered to prescribe dilators, but that wasn’t appropriate for me, so they referred me to a gynaecologist xx

luv2017 in reply to Aleelilook

Oh ok my GP didn’t do anything. I have my blood next week , let me ask . What did your gynaecologist do ?? Was it recovered now ?? Thanks for thst

Aleelilook profile image
Aleelilook in reply to luv2017

No not completely, mine is trauma related so I’m having therapy and also I find acupuncture helps to relax me. The gynaecologist just confirmed it really, and agreed to IVF. I also have only external scans and transfer under sedation. Sadly I avoided it for sometime so it’s definitely good you’re having it checked out xx
