Hi GreenApples. Would any one replying with suppliers' names, please do so by private message. - thanks. Meanwhile, regarding treatment with Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) it is still in its early days. Women with reduced ovarian reserve have been given 75 mgs of this drug a day, in divided doses of 25 mgs 3 times a day for around 2 months, been found to respond better to stimulation during IVF. You would need to discuss this thoroughly with your consultant regarding the potential side effect. However, I have had a few ladies who have achieved better egg collection following treatment. All the best with whatever you decide, and of course for success. Diane
Hello, GreenApples, and thanks for your good wishes. I've followed this group because I am interested in DHEA supplementation, although from a post-menopausal androgen deficiency angle, rather than fertility!
DHEA is an unlicensed medicine in the UK. A GP can prescribe unlicensed medicines if there is no licensed alternative, There isn't a licensed alternative for DHEA, but the Clinical Commissioning Groups are very keen to rub out such prescribing and the question of obtaining DHEA in the UK is highly vexed.
DHEA is classified as an anabolic steroid (which of course it is) by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and as such is closely regulated. Although it is legal to possess DHEA for personal use, acquiring it other than by prescription is effectively illegal - especially if you buy it from an overseas pharmacy and have it mailed to you.
I have been taking DHEA for 12 years, on prescription from my GP. He is now digging in his heels and saying that he is no longer willing to prescribe it, due to pressure from the CCG. Would you believe he says he knew it was unlicensed, but didn't realise how unlicensed? I had always thought 'unlicensed' was a binary state - it either is or isn't, with no matters of degree. Sadly, he is completely impervious to the fact that this is placing me in a position of androgen deficiency, a condition which is the subject of mounting interest in the US.
I would be very interested to know more about the UK trials which your doctors mentioned to you, in case they might help my argument, please.
Hey. I'm currently in the middle of taking it. I'm going private this time and it was recommended by my consultant due to my low AMH. I am happy to PM you what info I have and where I got it.
Desperately researching about DHEA. I know some months ago but have come across your post. I have a private prescription for DHEA which today I learnt was Β£600 + for 2 months! With a fortune being spent and have spent up until now I just cannot afford this for one prescription. However so desperate to be able to take this. Do you know if it is possible to get it anywhere cheaper and how? TIA X
I have been taking it and sure it's made a difference. I took micronized ones this time and got my friend in the states to get them and post over. You can get them online on pharmaceutical websites in UK but they are not micronized versions.check out some of my earlier posts about dhea xxx
