1st injection tonight!...

Rainbow_86 profile image

I can't quite believe after over a year after initial GP appointment... months of waiting, tests and probably the darkest time in our life, that we start injections tonight for our first cycle..... hubby going to do them as I can't bare the thought!

I'm scared and nervous.... and feel I'm abit of a pessimist, but pleased that we are trying and actually able to start..... I would give anything for this to work as i know all you ladies on here would.

Good luck to everyone in their journeys...... everyone has been so supportive

Xxxx

Thank you so much! I have my sport bottle full of water next to me now. I'm glad you mentioned it as the clinic never said about drinking lots! Thank you :) xx

Wishing you lots of luck, everything your feeling sounds totally 'normal'. Try and think positive as hard as it is xx

Rainbow_86 in reply toE_05

Aww thank you... Glad to know I'm 'normal' in this whole thing! My hubby got me a ivf hypnotherapy cd going to listen again to that later. I just have this horrible voice in my head convincing me I'm not going to one of the lucky ones. I know that negativity doesn't seem the best mind set to have to start! Thank you for kind words xxx

Ah that's a good idea, hope it helps. I think we're all guilty of doing that it's like self protection, I think we think if we tell ourselves it won't work it's won't hurt as much when it doesn't which isn't true. Hope your injection goes okay for you xx

Thank you so much... i think you are right its a defense mechanism. This journey has effected me so much as a person, that i feel like I can't allow myself to have a high expectation for it to be taken away. I'm not allowing myself to get excited. But just pleased we are actively doing and no longer just waiting... thanks so much again :) xx

E_05 in reply toRainbow_86

Definitely is, that's totally understandable. I remember feeling excited that I was finally getting to start IVF but haven't felt that since apart from my positive pregnancy test etc. No problem, there's always people to talk to on here so never feel alone through this journey Xx

I see your going through a cycle at the moment too.... just wanted you wish you the best of luck........ its lovely that there is so may people on here who support each other in real life where it feels like no one understands xxx

Thank you, yeah down reg at the mo for my 2nd fresh cycle. How did your first injection go? So true, I feel closer to people on here about my journey than the majority of my 'real' friends xx

Rainbow_86 in reply toE_05

Yes it's definatley refreshing to speak to people who know how it feels. Hope your cycle is going ok so far :) ..... my injection went ok thank you. I kept panicking saying 'don't do it' when hubby had needle lol, but was fine after just got on with it... weird thing now it's getting close to my injection time this evening I'm getting anxious about it again! I don't mean to sound a wimp it still feels sore where the needle went!! I know I'll get used to it. I'd take any pain in the world to give us a shot at this working! Xx

E_05 profile image
E_05 in reply toRainbow_86

Yeah it's not to bad thank you. Ah I totally know what you mean, my first 2 cycles I would be thinking about injection as the time drew closer and wonder how it would be. Are you injecting in your stomach or leg? It helps alternating sides if your not already xx

Rainbow_86 profile image
Rainbow_86 in reply toE_05

I am injecting into tummy! I'm now onto day 5 today. Seems to be getting less anxiety provoking each time. I just don't like needles! But me and hubby are getting there. Start doing 2 injections from tomorrow so guess I have no option to get used to it Lol! Glad yours is going ok. I always think of the other ladies doing it when we're drawing up our injections on an evening!X

E_05 in reply toRainbow_86

Oh that's good, it'll get easier as the days goes on and like you say now your doing 2 injections. I also try and think it'll be worth it in the end. Make sure you drink tons of water during stimming. Lots of luck x

Rainbow_86 profile image
Rainbow_86 in reply toE_05

Thank you... and definately. Id inject every day for the rest of my life if it gives us a shot at this.... so its a small price to pay.

Yes. I have my water bottle with me I keep filling up. Only think it's inconvenient needing the loo so much. Lol! Lots of luck with you too. I shall be looking out for your positive news :) x

Hello, me too ... starting down reg for the first time this morning, just waiting for the meds to be delivered. All I can say is prepare as much as you can for the next 6 weeks or so and aim to control only what you can...do not try to be a hero!

Aww keep us posted x I have received my injections and have my teach next Friday. I feel absolutely clueless about it all and anyone I have spoken to so far at St Mary's hasn't been very helpful. So I'm hoping Friday will answer some of my questions at least! I know I'm on short protocol whatever that is anyway I'll quit rambling now lol

Rainbow_86 profile image
Rainbow_86 in reply toSa_Ra

Awww I'm short protocol too!!! I'm sorry you feel you haven't explained things alot. I must admit I'm a nurse and used to injections... But I found all the information overwhelming! Please don't worry... take your time to research. There is lots of info they give you and you can look on online seminars too...... good luck and message anytime... we can get through this xxx

Thanks so much Rainbow_86 I've waited so long to get to this point and then not knowing what's going on is just making me anxious. I don't get why they asked me to call on first day of period when they didn't even bother calling me back then booked me in the following month to get things moving. I feel like they wasted a month and the waiting is unbearable as it is!

Rainbow_86 profile image
Rainbow_86 in reply toSa_Ra

Aww I know what you mean.... we felt the wait was the hardest and has really been quite a dark place at times.

My period was a couple of days late, and that delayed my treatment by 2 weeks in the end as they were fully booked the following week so I had to take the pill and wait, so I know a few weeks can feel like a lifetime when you just want to start! But you will get there!!

As you are on short protocol too it will fly over... try and use these next couple of weeks to relax and prepare yourself (I know it's easier said than done)! I'm always here if you need a chat

Xxx

Awww thanks I really appreciate it xx my husband has 2 kids from previous marriage, I've tried my best with them but all they ever want is 'daddy' so it gets quite lonely :-( I put on hold having kids because I wanted to build a bond with them first I can't help but feel I'm being punished now somehow. I never once thought it wouldn't happen for us. Plus everyone around me seems to be getting pregnant too which is hard. I can only talk to my mum about it, people must think all sorts about me having been married 4 years and no child it's all they ask me. Our diagnosis is 'unexplained infertility' which is frustrating as hell.

Rainbow_86 profile image
Rainbow_86 in reply toSa_Ra

Aww I'm sorry.... I know how it seems that everyone around is getting pregnant as soon as they start trying... it it's so hard. And even harder that some people just don't understand because they have never had to worry about conceiving.... Also I know we are so quick to blame ourselves over this......there are some horrible people in this world...and they are able to have babies and they aren't being punished... so please don't blame you! I coped quite well the first year of TTC but the second year has been a very dark place. Now into the next year as we are doing IVF I feel abit better knowing were actually doing something. But I'm still terrified of the outcome.

We have male factor issues.... I can imagine that the 'unexplained' bracket must feel very frustrating.... but hopefully that also means your chances of success are higher as they can't find anything wrong....

I really hope it all works out for you... I also feel isolated from friends too so please feel free to chat whenever xx

Thanks it actually made me tear up reading that - appreciate the support like u said some people just don't understand. I'm so glad I found this forum because I finally feel like there really are people out there who feel the same way I do.

Rainbow_86 in reply toSa_Ra

Aww bless you.... I'm sorry to make you tear up! It's weird coz I feel in the real world I don't have many people I can talk to about this.... but here it's so supportive. Just remember your never alone in your feelings xx

in reply toSa_Ra

I started self injection today and can recommend Emla lidocaine cream under a plaster for 45mins... did not feel a thing when the needle went in...almost felt disappointed ha ha!

Sa_Ra profile image

Hey puffin27 that sounds good where would I find it? My mum reckons I'll be fine because she's ok injecting herself with insulin on a daily basis! I hate needles though, I cringe when I can feel the needle going in but I know I have to be strong now

Thank you so much.... I hope you are ok after your recent cycle.... wishing you all the best for the future x

I found it online at chemistdirect.co.uk and bought a few small tubes which arrived very quickly in normal post, I had a wierd feeling at the back of my throat for about half an hour afterwards too but that is probably nerves. Honestly it was such a good idea as allowed me to just do it and not get worked up. I felt the liquid so I just went very slow... tomorrow I will do the same and let you know how that one goes also.
