When i went to visit ny Gp today he gave me a copy of my ultrasound scan and upon reading it i found it says there is fluid in the pouch of douglas? Is this normal or not? This has not been mentioned to me as there main concern is my hydrosalpinx! X

Anyone been told they have fluid in the pouch of douglas??
I also had fluid in my pelvis, it can be caused by different things but mine was related to endometriosis which was causing inflammation and fluid.
I'm not sure how common it is.
Did they say how much fluid there was?
Do you have symptoms of endo? Sometimes women only get a few or no symptoms. If it's endo in the pouch of Douglas this should only be handled by a bgse specialist and not a general gynaecologist who will not have the skills or training to remove endo in that area if you chose surgery.
I have some symptoms but the doctors don't seem too bothered about as i've been diagnosed with hydrosalpinx xx
Unfortunately it seems drs aren't that arsed about endo but the worst thing is they give a facade that they know it all and haven't received the correct training at general gynaecologist level to tackle difficult or severe endo. My GP kept sending me for std tests as I had bleeding between periods, due to the bleeding it took multiple swabs to get results which took 4 months to say all was well (I did tell her I was married and no chance of it being std) finally she sent me for a scan and they saw the 7 cm mass and too late to save my ovary. Also bear in mind if anyone tells you they can spot endo on an ultrasound, it's not true. The only way to confirm it is with a lap.
I got hold of an endo specialist in Birmingham who at the same time with dealing with endo said he could check tubes etc. Message me if you need details. X
Hi Nickimidge. Well, it's more common than you think to have this problem. It is often caused by some pelvic inflammatory disease or endometriosis. It seeps from the peritoneal lining which surrounds all your organs, and as there is a natural space in the Pouch of Douglas, tends to settle there. due to gravity. If you have a hydrosalpinx too, then they may want to clip or remove any affected tube, due to the possibility of any surplus fluid leaking back into the womb and possibly preventing a developing embryo to implant. I'm sure your specialist will explain all this thoroughly with you before proceeding with any treatment. Good luck with it all and I hope you are soon sorted out. Diane
