Hi All, I've just joined and hoping to get some advice bout my first cycle of IVF starting in July, eeeek! We are off to Bali for two weeks and my partner reckoned that there is a chance we could come back with Bali belly. Would you advise going ahead with the tretament or would we need to hold off?
Thank you

Gosh, that's a new question! I'd probably advise asking your clinic! How common is Bali belly? (Clearly never been and very jealous!) are there things you can do to reduce the risk?
haha kick off with a tricky question! if it makes you feel better we were camping last weekend in a field with no shower!! Well my boyfriend has been and says he gets it every time (he tells me now!!) and it can last up to three weeks when he gets back. Our preparation treat holiday doesn't seem such a good idea now!
I'll give the clinic a call. Apparently you can take probiotics but most of them say consult the pharmacist if you are trying to get pregnant and the pharmacist said they don't really work anyway!!
We can chose when we start as we didn't qualify for NHS - too old by a month :-(. They said just call them whenever we are ready, i'm just keen to start now.
Thank goodness. We went to the Maldives as we thought it was safe and it was on the list. Fortunately it was just six months ago. I'm sure you'll be fine if you're careful what you eat and what a great way to relax and prepare! X
We nearly got caught out with zika too. After the consultant saying he wasn't concerned about my OH travelling to lima Peru about 3 days into my DR at the implications meeting the nurse went nuts. She pretty much forced him into freezing a sample even though they had hardly any appointments and he was due to fly out two days later and hadn't purged! He's been to Singapore and India since and they are both on the list.
If you are going to the touristy areas of Bali you should be ok. I went about 7 years ago and didn't get an upset stomach and we travelled all over Bali, lombok and java. I usually get an upset stomach everywhere!
Bali 2 weeks ago for her honeymoon . She was told they could not begin to try for a baby for a certain amount of time as Zika virus is found . Better safe than sorry x good luck with your cycle all fingers and toes crossed for you xxx
We were told to cancel our Italian holiday this year as the hospital wanted me to remain in the country should they need to check my pre-progress. It turns out I reacted quite badly to metformin so needed to be in and out a fair amount. Holiday would have helped though ....
After a failed 1st go at ICSI in March, my partner and I were umming and ahh-img about our Bali trip last month before doing an FET. We went in the end and it was THE best plan. Neither of us got sick, it allowed me to chill and relax and just as long as you eat in the nicer places I think you should be fine too. I asked my doc and he said should be all good so off we went.
I think there's something to be said for having a holiday pre treatment.
Ps just read the previous posts about Zika. I'm British but live in Melbourne and we didn't have any warnings from the doc about the virus. Potentially the U.K. may have a different view?
We've also been to Bali a few times and (touch wood) have escaped the dreaded Bali belly.
I spoke to the clinic today and they said that Bali is on the list despite not being on the actual list they gave me! They have said he would need to do a sample tmw if we want to go and that we would have to wait 8 weeks to have ivf. We also wouldn't be able to try naturally for 6 months in case one of us was a carrier 😞 No idea what to do now!! Meant to be going on Friday!!
Oh no! Fancy having two lists. We went to the Maldives and didn't see a single mosquito as they sprayed the island regularly but it was still on the list! I think it's a difficult one and I'm not sure of your age or circumstances. Have you got insurance if you had to pull out and would they cover it? I looked into mine as we had a holiday booked (only in the UK) but the week that I'm due egg collection and they wouldn't cover it unless I got a doctor's letter saying they had recommended I don't travel. If you only have to wait 8 weeks that's not too bad. I was told 6 months for both IVF and conceiving naturally. My AMH is low and I'm 40 early next year (NHS funding stops then) so everything is on hold until then for us! xx
