Such a vanity post but I thought you ladies may know.... I get my hair coloured every few months to cover up my grey and from time to time get gel or acrylic nails. Does anyone know if these are bad things to do when approaching an FET?? Sorry to be so vain when there are much bigger issues at stake here!
Thanks!

I don't know the answer coz I don't bother doing that myself lol But with everything I always keep in my head, 'if it all fails will I blame it on......" So if u got it done and it didn't work would u be thinking 'if only I never done my nails or hair etc' xx
I'm holding off my usual highlights until after FET. I'm just going to try to rock the grey streak like Merida's mum in the film Brave, lol!
I also stopped having semi permanent eyelashes a while back- I was getting really bad headaches after they were done which I figured might have been the eyelash glue, which can't be good for the body as a whole, so I'm very much back to basics at the mo! I've been reading about toxins in face makeup - apparently red lipstick can be quite toxic so go for paler shades if you wear it. I'm allowing myself a bit of foundation and eyeliner and lip balm and that's it.
Best of luck xx
Don't think any one here will judge you for wanting to look nice 😘 I get my hair dyed by a salon every few months- I try to aim for it to be done when I'm on my period- not always successful! Saying that there are some colourants that are safe to use during pregnancy- which would be fine for you to use -I'm not sure what ones they are- I'm sure if you asked your nurse specialist he or she could tell you. I think as a general rule I think it's pexoide you should avoid. As for nails I really don't know sorry. Make up should be safe I'd imagine.
I have decided to knock the alcohol out -I don't smoke anyway- apart from that will be living as normal as possible. I feel like I would feel more stressed if i was trying to do perfectly- that's just me- I'm only on clomid trying to be natural and let my body do its thing-if I was having IVF I'd be different I'm sure.
All the very best for your fet - hope it brings you a BFP x x x
Thanks ladies for your replies - I think I might go down the better safe than sorry route for now. Will focus on trying not to bite my nails and just get a haircut for now!!
Hi sipidania. I recently had a word with my own hairdresser after someone posted a similar question, and she reckons that most of the professional hair colours could be harmful if left on for a while. However, she said that if you were just having something like highlights done using foil, then the roots tend not to absorb much if any of the colour, and the rest of the hair is dead anyway!!
Unfortunately, people like “The Body Shop” have stopped producing their henna products because the new EU regulations stated that they had to test the dye on animals before continuing to sell it. Obviously for them that was a complete “no no”. However, “Holland & Barrett” do carry a range of safe hair colourants to use during pregnancy. They are a nationwide outfit, so I am sure you would be able to visit one fairly locally. I also spoke with the “Cosmetic and Perfumery Association (CTPA) and they assure me that hair colourants are one of the most studied consumer products on the market, and are safe for all women, pregnant or not. But if you are still concerned, why don’t you buy a chemical free semi-permanent dye such as “Clairol Nice’n’Easy”, which lasts from 6 to 8 washes. It might only tone down your roots rather than cover it completely, but better than nothing! Diane
Thank you Diane for such brilliant detail, much appreciated! I will just deal with having grey roots for now, no point taking any risks at this stage! X
I asked my hairdresser about the effects of hair colouring in early pregnancy and she said the real risk is to do with if you have a reaction to the chemicals used... apparently the changes in your body when you're in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy could make you have a reaction when you otherwise wouldn't. So it's best not to have your hair coloured if you might be pregnant. Which you obviously hope you will be!!
