how long does the process take?

hannahelizabethmarti profile image

hiya! i was just wondering if anyone could tell me how long the process was from agreeing with your doctor that you can have IVF to actually having the firtilised eggs inserted?

i'm new to all this and am awaiting an appointment to confirm that we are now eligible for IVF so any advice would be greatly appreciated:)

It all depends on where you are. in edinburgh from the time you are put on the waiting list its 12 months but in the borders there is no wait at all. I live in the borders but when i went in for my nurse discussion they realised i hadnt had a scan and when they did referred me back to an endo specialist for surgery to remove endometriomas and my tube. Just had that and start my stimulation drugs end of october. Good luck!

Mine was about 18 months but I had to have a fibroid removed & my hubby had to be a non-smoker for 12 months so not sure if that delayed things or that was the norm. The fibroid definitely delayed things by 3 months. Good luck, I hope things move quickly for you xxx

Hey Hun! I was referred to the hospital October last year, I had my lap and dye test done in October and was given 3 months to try naturally, then iui was tried in Feb this year, that failed and then again iui was tried may this year again this failed. June I applied for ivf and this was accepted in july (took 6 weeks) and now I have my first ivf appointment at the clinic next Tuesday! I live in London but it depends which clinic you choose and how busy they are. Good luck xxx

We were referred to a fertility specialist last July was out first appointment and we didn't get put on the list until we hit the 2 year mark which was June this year and we got a letter saying treatment should start November. We have further blood tests due the end of this month then it will be just waiting on results and initial IVF appointment to discuss treatment :-) xxx

We went to gp I think in September 2013 were referred to Crosshouse a few months later and they did tests. We were told we'd need ivf. Finally had our first cycle which failed in July 2016 so it has been a long wait. And our treatment was brought forward was meant to be September! ! We were told because our treatment was icsi waiting time was longer. I don't think all parts of Scotland make you wait that long tho xx

Hi there.

We got told we would moving onto IVF in April and I am having my eggs harvested 4th October. I think this is quite quick though- we started IUI May last year but had an allergic reaction to the mess, and it took them nearly a year to establish we would be moving on which I think is why it's happened fairly quickly. We are in the South West. I wish you the best of luck.

Hi hun our wait was about 6 months. We are nottinghamshire based. I did have to get my bmi up for nhs funding so that delayed us. Also i had my fallopian tubes removed from them being so inflammed and damaged from appendicitus going wrong. But from the date we was given the go ahead to be referred to the fertility clinic to the day we had egg transfer for ivf was around 2 months. We didnt expect it to be that quick but my partner works abroad and the first month fell right so we was rushed to have it. It happened all very quick and i started my medication while on holiday! Best decision to jump straight in though. We are now 24 weeks pregnant! Good luck with it all hun. And keep coming on here this forum is a god send. Stacie xx
