Hi there,
I'm not expert but can at least answer. In case of less number of follicles they need to go for long protocol, to let allow them to grow in mature eggs. But if an ovarian reservoir is good, they can proceed with short protocol.
Stages are as follows
1.baseline scan and hormonal levels including thyroid function test, blood parameters, BP, weight, co2 test, sperm sample and infectious diseases
2.if your body is ready accordingly to there protocol they will again scan uterus to check if any polyps or fibroid
3.cycle Suppression
4. Stimulation
5. Egg retrieval
6. Embryo transfer
Though looks just few steps, it is hard to reach until embryo transfer day and most difficult 2ww times.
I hope you get an idea from above details.
Good luck
Hi strong-girl,
Sarah's outlined the whole process really well.
In terms of timescale - both cycles usually require you to start treatment at the beginning of a period.
Long protocol I believe can take 6-8 weeks to complete.(from start of meds until ET- embryo transfer) then you wait two weeks for pregnancy test
Short protocol is 2-3weeks - I had this done- and I started 17th May and completed transfer on 6th June.
You start injections on day 2 of your period and continue for about 9-13 days. Then egg collection(EC) about 2 days later and embryo transfer 3-5 days after EC.
There are far less side effects with a short protocol but it's not suitable for everyone as Sarah pointed out.
If you have PcOS or danger of over stimulating you tend to be on short protocol.
Hope this helps x
Thank you, that's really helpful for our daughters case xxx
Its really nice of you to take such interest in it for your daughter, my mother (thou she can be nice) struggles to understand the pain linked with all this.
