Hi I'm new to the whole IVF thing... I've had my first meeting with my consultant and I am waiting for my second.. I already know I definitely need IVF but I don't know what to expect... I have been reading comments on here but don't really understand the process from start to finish... could someone please break it down for me... Thanks
The process?: Hi I'm new to the whole... - Fertility Network UK
The process?
Hi, my husband and I are a little further down the line. I remember thinking we would leave the first appt with a list of appts etc but instead we're just kind of left again. We had our first appt with fertility consultant around 4 weeks ago, had some forms etc to fill in and he gave us some basic info and ordered blood tests. Had our second appt today, I've had a scan to check all is well and for follicles and more blood tests ordered. The next step is that I call the clinic on day 1 of my next cycle, from which they will schedule scans etc. on day 21 of that cycle I will go for injection training and for 4-5 weeks after I will be on hormones, initially to surpress my system and then to stimulate it for egg production. Then onto egg collection and sperm collection (all done on the same day) for fertilising using ICSI, 3-5 days later they get put back in. That is likely to happen late August time and then fingers crossed. Depending on your circumstances you may have different tests etc to have. Good luck 🍀
Thanks so much for the reply it's all quiet foreign to me... I've been reading all the stories on here and I'm so scared that it won't work... are u taking time off work after implantation?
I know, but no matter how hard it is you need to think positive. Your body is going to go through so much and stress levels can have such negative effects on your body. Do something that gives you some control, I've started eating healthier to lose a little weight, cut out alcohol and taking folic acid. My thought is that I want to do anything I can to give us the best possible chance. I will probably book a day or so off after transfer yes, just for time to rest and recoop emotionally more than anything. It can get difficult on here because everyone has there own story and so many different reasons why people need IVF. Try not to get too deep reading as sometimes it just makes things worse. I'm happy to update you with what happens at our next appt etc if you want. 🍀
Hi Big-D, I am at the same stage as you I think, had first appointment with consultant, and told us we have to have ICSI as a problem with my husbands sperm. They have said I will have to have a hysterosalpingogram to check me (have you had this?, I have had a scan and blood tests) and just waiting for referral now (our local NHS hospital doesn't do fertility treatment), and don't really know what will happen next etc, we were both a little in shock from our consultant appointment and wish we had asked more questions etc. We are also wondering if we can afford or it may be best to go private. We have been told we should get 3 cycles on the NHS, we have been trying for 3 years so just keen to get this started now. xxx
Hi rosy... like u I wished I had asked more questions but it was such a shock to me I just sat there gobsmacked... I've had the hsg I would highly recommend taking some strong painkillers and anti-inflamatorys before the test as it is sore but we'll worth it...you can Google ur local fertility clinic and they should have a break down of the price for going private xx
