Hi Orangepie. Yes, it can happen. All down to control of the thyroid with correct medication. If you haven't already done so, perhaps you could ask to see an endocrinologist who apecialises in this type of disease, if you are particularly worried?? Good luck! Diane

Yes seeing one in April, Bit of a wait. So thought I'd get some first-hand experience. Good to hear it can happen.

Hi sorry mine isnt successful but before my ivf cycle started they said my thyroid antibodys where hi so they upped my thyroine and put me on steriods.

Although it looks like my cycle wasn't successful I think I've got a chemical pregnancy.

I was very annoyed with my gp as he totally dismissed everything that my clinic said when I went for repeat blood test me and virtually laughed in my face saying there was no need for them to put me on steriods as it wouldn't effect pregancy .

It's so frustrating as from my point of view there are so many conflicting points of view but I am going to pester them about the hashimotos.

Good luck with your journey

Hi, Crazy-cat, thanks for your reply. What were you antibodies in number? Mine were 109 and TSH 2.84, therefore not being prescribed anything even though I am pestering them and I feel it needs to be sorted and lower TSH. May i ask the reason why you are on IVF? We are trying naturally, just having lots of early mc thought hashimotos had something to do with it so I want to sort it. Yes I have realised with fertility all the docs are not clued up and sometimes you have to go in guidelines etc. Make sure you are listened to and don't let them fob you off...

They never told me my levels for anti body's just said they were high. My thyroid was about right at 2.5 before they put my throixine up to 150 mg.

Dr's only give results of its fine no further action needed so I'm going to actually ask them for levels next time.

He also only tested tsh and not antibodys as well but I will push more.

I've been on throixine for about 15 years now.

I had lots of scar tissue and 1 blocked tube, which has now been removed. They say I can fall pregnant naturally but for all the trying it's never happened.

Hi, I have hashimotos, high antibodies, TSH has been just about normal recently, but after seeing a blood test from a years previous (when apparently I was very under active except no one told me..) the repro endocrinologist put me on 75mg thyroxine. this was at the start of my IVF - sadly it looks very much like I'm headed for a bfn (official test day is Wednesday but I'm testing negative at the mo and period is starting). However, my aunt has hashimotos and she has a daughter so it can happen. I had Graves' disease (overactive) in my twenties and the racing heart and muscle aches I'm now getting on the thyroxine is taking me back to that and making me a bit scared- I don't get tested again for thyroid panel until later this week so we'll see if my dose changes. I do wonder if the sudden change in my metabolism may have been part of my BFN but I guess if I hadn't said yes to the thyroxine I could now be blaming myself for not having taken action to sort out my thyroid so you can't really win!! I guess my advice would be to try and sort out your thyroid first so that, unlike me, you can tell the difference between the symptoms of different drugs. And I agree, don't be robbed off. If they don't like you asking questions or showing some knowledge about your health then try to find another specialist if you can. I trust them far more when they admit that this area is complex and more research needed. Good luck xx

Hello, I also have Hashimotos. I'm afraid no pregnancy yet for me but I have just started steroid treatment as I tested high for natural killer cells in January. Been on levothyroxine since last April and my ths and t4 have been fine for a few months now so rightly or wrongly (although I think it's really important for the thyroid hormones to be normal) I think the problem is the autoimmunity of Hashimotos, our bodies are attacking things they don't recognise, which would be the killer cells.

I have also gone gluten free since June and my antibodies have really decreased (from 550 to 250!!!)

in reply toBumbo

That's good to hear the antibodies have gone down. What was your TSH before med? I'm seeing an endo to see what he suggest. Natural killer cells is that linked to thyroid ?

My ths, I was told by nhs proffs was fine, always from 3 to 5. I felt awful though, could not function in the afternoons and evenings. I saw a private endo and he diagnosed me with Hashimotos and then found a sympathetic gp in my practice so I'm being treated, as my previous gp was not helpful at all. I only sought treatment because of my fertility issues but actually, the levothyroxine has had a huge impact on my quality of life, didn't realise at the time that it was not normal to feel shattered everyday. Someone on this site showed me the WHO site where it says ths should be between 1 and 2 for fertility.

I think medical opinion differs re killer cells. I believe it's linked to autoimmune disorders. Hashimotos is autoimmune, but not all people with thyroid problems have Hashimotos, so their problem is other than an immune issue. I was recommended a book on this site by somebody that explains this specific issue. It's called something like "is your body baby friendly" by Alan Beer. It's a little pricey but I bought it and it applied to and explained everything that's happening to me right now. I was also recommended the Dr who does the work in the uk that corresponds to Dr Beer's beliefs and he's the only who found my killer cells are high. I hope this is our solution. The first month of steriods didn't work for us, so March will be our 2nd try on treatment!

I meant NICE, not WHO

in reply toBumbo

Yes I also went with the NICE guidelines and they said that is for women with diagnised hypo on thyroxine already. And they wasn't budging in prescribing me anything and told me to ' stop obsessing'. I feel like I have symptoms but GP odnt want to know as my TSH was 2.84 and even though I have elevated antibodies they are happy for me not be on anything even though I am ttc. I hope the endo on fri is much better ... I think i i will just stick with treating the antibodies and see if the blood thinners are needed when I get my results.. It's more complciated when it gets to natural killer cells etc, as gyn not willing to send me fot that test. It's really hard because we have to fight for our tests and treatments . They can see II have a history of early preg failure so I tough they would test for NKC as my pregnancy failures happen around 4 weeks and 2 days now...
