Hello. I don't think it will. But be honest when they ask if you smoke. As they will ask that question. It is best if you can stop all together though. I know it's not easy. But will be better for you and when they do transfers. And will make you feel like your giving it your best shot at working. Xxx
I've read that females quitting smoking at least 2 months before trying to conceive are dramatically improving their chances of conceiving. You've quit 5 or 6 months before treatment so you're giving yourself the best chance. Obviously quitting smoking is very hard so congratulate yourself on quitting.
Based on what I've read in a few places, having 10 cigarettes won't have any effect on your body. It's likely it will be a long time until you can drink alcohol and you'll hopefully never smoke again. So stop beating yourself up and focus on the fact you've succeeded in quitting and have already put in a massive effort to give yourself the best chances of success. Regardless of how treatment goes you'll have plenty to worry about over the coming months so focus on the positives.
Your partner also needs to quit (if they are a smoker).
Good luck.
Thank you for getting back to me 😄 My husband doesn't smoke and honestly I wish I'd never started. Our first appointment is the 22nd jan so just have everything crossed that they give us the go ahead!
I am determined to not smoke ever again and we are already doing dry January!!
Thanks again for the replies,
Holly x
Hi , if I were you I would say that you haven't been smoking for ages and if your partner smokes I would say he stopped smoking too . Both me and my partner smoked , and when we were in the process of being ref for IVF we were told that both people must not have smoked cigarettes for 6 months prior to treatment, I stopped straight away when told this but my partner stopped smoking cigarettes and instead bought a vapour pipe non tobacco based and he thought this would be fine as wasn't an actual cigarette . As it turned out , when we had our next appointment ( the one where we were finally ref for IVF ( with a lot of begging / hassle - the whole appointment was a nightmare ) the Dr said that she wouldn't ref us due to the fact that my boyfriend was still smoking !! We argued that it was a vapour pipe non tobacco but the Dr said that she would not ref us as partner still smoking and if she did ref us for funding for IVF it would be rejected! I was mortified as been waiting for a year and half to get IVF ref. after we persuaded her to ref us we finally got funding . but we did have to write a letter of complaint too as the appointment we had was so unprofessional . So basically I would say you have not been smoking for six months . Hope this helps . Xx
Our clinic do a smoke test but I'm not sure how it works (they didn't do it on us) they wanted to on this second IVF go but said as its our second they wont? I gave up 3 years ago but not sure what it reads? I would imagine it would pick up if you smoked just within a few days? So having a few at Christmas I would 'forget about' and go from your last fag before that X
To be honest, I wouldn't tell them. You've given up and had a slip. It wouldn't show up even if they tested you, so why bother? Don;t give any excuse to postpone. Good luck x
I'm with louisemac, don't tell them. You're not gonna smoke through treatment or when pregnant, you're not stupid & know the risks. Christmas was just a time to relax & forget it all before it all starts. Forgive yourself & look forward.
Good luck x
Hi All
Thank you for your replies - sounds like a plan!
I am not going to tell them and hopefully if they do test me then it will be clear anyway as by Friday it will be almost a month ago.
Fingers crossed
All the best to all of you too x

Hi holly do as others have said and not say anything, im having my treatment at the same clinic as you and they never did any tests on me, infact theyve only asked me at the begining if i smoked bk then id only stopped about a week before, i am self funding tho and im sure in regards to funding they want you to be smoke free for at least 6 months...so keep quiet youve done really well so far, good luck with everything x
Hi hope faith
I've a feeling we will have to pay as DH had a vasectomy- although a long time before we were together.... Honestly if they say there is even a 1% chance we will use credit cards / beg, borrow / steal .......
Fingers crossed for 1%? Or more!!! xx
Ps so nice someone else local can i just wish you all the very best x we probably will get a no but you are young healthy and it should happen for you, wishing you lots of luck x
Thank you im hoping we will be fortunate with age and health on our sides although i have seen many stories where sometimes things just dont go as imagined so we still try not to get oue hopes up just like yourself....im sure there is lots that you can still try, they will probrably suggest surgical retrival to see if they can still recover some sperm... Im sure after having the vasectomy sperms are still produced just not able to leave, I wouldnt worry too much just yet, the staff all seem very helpful and friendly so you are in good hands good luck for friday x
Ps we used credit cards, begged and borrowed lol jus hope it will all be worth while x
Thank you x all the best to you too 😄
I'll let you know how we get on I've everything crossed and now just wishing this week to fly by!!!
