Hi all, my husband and I have received funding for IVF and are just waiting for a appointment now, I was just wondering how do things stand with work when you have to take time off for all the appointments, do work have to pay you ? Can they force you to use your holiday? Or do you just take the time off unpaid, I hope this makes sense.
Time of work: Hi all, my husband and I... - Fertility Network UK
Time of work
I think it depends on your work, my boyfriend doesn't get hospital appointments so has to change his days off to when we have appointments but my work are really good an I get them paid. technically it's a hospital app so I think it should be paid and allowed but unfortunately there's no law that says an employee has to give time off for hospital....unless you're pregnant which is ironic. Good luck with everything x
My work has a policy which allows time off for IVF appointments. So check your work policies, you could contact personnel to check if you want to avoid telling your manager until you know the situation. As with other appointments you are expected to make them at reasonable times where possible i.e. early morning or end of the day.
Saying that I didn't tell my work as I felt I didn't want anyone to know at the time. I managed my appointments on days off, early mornings or I said it was a dental app.
So whatever suits you best,
Best wishes for your cycle,
xxx
My employer has an IVF policy but I have where possible arranged appointments around work, except EC as it was under general anaesthetic so work counted that as a separate hospital appointment. They have been very flexible and allowed additional appointments over the policy. Hubby's work have allowed him time off too, but they do that with anyone supporting their partner/kids at hospital appointments.
Thank you all for your help, I'm not sure my work will be very helpful as when my husband had cancer and I stayed at the hospital with him, they made me use my holiday. We will see, I will wait until I have had my appointment and I know what's going on before I talk to anyone.
