Getting time off work

Hey girls, was wondering how yous all got on with getting time off work ? I took 2 weeks holiday so I could relax but it's working out that I will be back at work for egg collection and my et phoned my work today to see if I could just use the rest of my holidays and my bosses answer to that was you can come in the next day after your treatment can you not!!! I have never had so many issues with a boss in my life it really gets to me how people that don't have any issues with fertility do not care or even think how people are feeling👊.

Ps. Sorry for the rant girls am sore and grumpy tonight 😂🙈xxxxx

Do you get sick pay? If so, get a note from your GP xx

Definitely!! Just explain to your Dr. that you are having fertility treatment & will need time to recover from egg collection + transfer. (& depending what you do for a living, you may want to have the 2ww off to relax!!!) My partner works as a healthcare support worker in a hospital, & she self certified for the week of collection, & then had a sick note from the GP for recovery. xx

I was lucky to have scans etc throu Easter holidays (I work in a school) then I took a week self cert sick, this was the week of egg collection, then the Dr signed me off for a week, the 1st week of the 2ww, he actually asked how long I wanted off, but I felt like I needed to get back to work then. My Dr put stress on my sick note, but my work were really good with me ne way and the head teacher was behind me 100% so that helped. Sorry to hear ur boss isn't great with u! Have u looked into ur policies in work if it says ne thing in them as to what rights u have?? Xx

Hi Kailz. I am very luck as my boss completely understand but my clinic will give me a note to give to the office saying that I need 2 weeks off. They already know.

Hi Kaliz,

I got sick note from my Gp for my previous cycle from the day of egg collection & for the whole tww also.

At the end of the day it’s not just a physical thing but you need that time for yourself.

I would recommend you get a sick note from the Gp.

Hey Kaliz, I think it’s all about what makes you most comfortable and if you feel you can tell your work so they can be accommodating. In my first round I worked during egg collection and I’d booked some time off for two week wait always explained that I may need to move it around my boss was fine with this. Turned out when I told him what it was for eventually he was even more understanding! Sadly I never needed the two weeks off. For my second round it was harder because we went abroad! So I plumped a lot of my annual leave (I do get a lot!) together and took 3 weeks! This time... I just took two. My BFP fell the day after I went back to work. I didn’t struggle being at work. But I can’t begin to tell you how amazing it was having three weeks off work and relaxing so much. X

I’ve been lucky, working a 4 day week, that managed to schedule appointments/scans on those days. Had day off for egg collection then worked from home the following morning, then into London for a meeting in the afternoon. Embryo transfer is scheduled for Monday, as my day off, then il straight back to work for a normal week. Taking time off will only stress me out as we’re so busy at the moment and I figure going in will keep me calmer (and won’t be thinking so much!)

Try and get a sick line form your GP - mine have been fantastic (I had to switch GP teams between cycles as the first left). The first put it down as IVF procedure, the second put it down as surgery and recovery time. The second time the line stopped just before the Easter hols so got an extra 2 weeks on top (work in a school). Boss was a bit funny / not very understanding with the first cycle but as we've got further down the line, she is becoming slightly more understanding.

Hi, I had lots of side effect with the stimulation part so Gp gave me 2 weeks off work, had my eggs retrieved and embryos transferred on 31/5/18. They were grade 2. And I was given only 5-8% success rate. So now I am terrified that going back to work could compromise my chances. No embryos frozen this cycle. I am going to go to the occupational health and be signed off. I work in a very stressful environment with 13-hours shifts. My babies are more important

This is your shot at this you got to make it work for you and what you feel comfortable with. Luckily my manger was so understanding, I personally only had two days off for EC and after ET and into the two week wait I had a few days off then in for a couple then off a couple back in couple days ect so it kept my mind off things. But I don’t know what line of work you do but I’m in retail and I got an extra week off paid on top of normal holiday for fertility appointments so it’s worth asking if your work has anything in place like that. Best of luck with your fertility journey 💕

How did you find out if they did ? Am in retail aswell xx

Wilburbear24 in reply to Kay_x

I went to my personel manager who got it up for me. I could of also found it on the retail staff website which I didn’t know about at the time. It was really helpful as I was entilited to 1 week off extra per cycle. 3 a year was allowed for. If your manager is not very understand is there a manager above he/she you could go to? Hope you get it sorted the last thing you need is stress cos of work ❤️

I work for Tesco and there fertility pay policy is on the staff website which I can log on to but I didn’t know I could do that at the time so went to the personel manager to find out for me. Hopefully in your company they do something similar Xxx
