Hello lovely. I have searched on a specific Ivf site and it said it is used for timing a cycle, gives the clinc better control. Hope this helps hun. If in doubt never be afraid to ask the nurse at the doctors. :) xx

So does it make you have a period or stop a period? I'm very confused!? We got given a prescription in a group lecture but I was so busy worrying that we hadn't been given a start date that I didn't listen to the beging!!!

Hi - I called the clinic on the first day of my period, they told me to start taking norethisterone on day 21, I then got a letter for my appointment on the 28th October, they told me the date to stop taking it and they told me when my period would arrive. It came 2 days after stopping taking the tablets. All norethisterone does is time your period so they know when and what they can do for you next. I started my merional injections lastnight along with letrozole for 5 days. Hope this helps :) Good Luck xxx

Ahh yes it does!! Thank you! Iv been told to take it on day 21 and then they would tell me when to stop! Thank you! As I'm on short protocol then iv been given a time line to start stims on day 2 of my next period would that be the period after takeing these tablets then? Thank you & good luck!

yeah that's right... when you start your next period you need to take that as day 1, on day 21 take norethisterone. You will then get told when to stop taking them and your period should start after 2/3 days. when you start your period on day 2 you should start your injections... at least that's what I did anyway! If you're unsure you're best to ring your clinic, they're really helpful and should be able to explain it to you :) If you need anything else you can always PM me :) Good luck to you too!! Is this your first go at IVF? xx

Agh thanks thAts very helpful! Yes it's my first go, im really worried about how it's all going to feel etc more emotionally than physically!! It's taken years to get to this point!!

Hi Hannah as the others have said as you are on the short protocol you don't down regulate so norethisterone is to time your cycle.

You take it on 21 it will stop AF coming. You will then have a scan a 10-14 days later to see if your ovaries are inactive and the lining in thin. If they are happy you will stop taking it and then start your stims. I started mine on the same day as scan so didn't have to wait until AF came. Also it was 4 days after stopping Norethisterone before AF appeared. Eveyone is different and timing of cycles and stim etc is also different for each person and clinic. So good luck hun.
