I had my egg retrival today and I was hoping for double figures but it was 9. I know this is a good number for some but I'm feeling tired and emotional. Does anyone have any similiar numbers and how many made it to day 5? I'm 31 so hoping age on my side.
Thanksyou xx

hi lovely, i hope you're well. I'm on a similar situation we only got 7 this time, on the last cycle we got 11, out of which 9 mature, 9 fertilised and only 3 blastocysts. But we are older than you and have MF. Fingers crossed it will all work out well for you, perhaps from those 9 you'll get a high % of good blastocysts. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, best of luck xx
unfortunately it is very hard to predict, so we just have to take it one day at a time, although I'm very anxious waiting until day 5, we are now down to 4 on day 3. But I've read in here all sorts of outcomes, some people get 7 fertilised then 6 blastocysts, etc there's normally a drop but you never know what you'll get ! fingers crossed you'll get loads of good blastocysts, age is on your side x
Hi Running. That’s not so bad. You should get a few fertilise out of those. The medication you’ve had will tire you out. Are sure you drink plenty of water and pass plenty of urine. Avoid constipation too. Good luck for fertilisation. Diane
9 eggs is still a great number, and you’re right that age is on your side. When I had my retrieval, I also had a similar number of eggs, and while not all of them made it to day 5, I was fortunate to have a few strong embryos. Wishing you the best of luck with the next steps – you’ve got this! x
No matter how many eggs they tell me we’ve collected I am always disappointed (even when I can physically hear people that n the beds around me with less!!) I think it’s natural we always want more and all the hormones donthelp!
9 is a great number and actually the average number or just above it. I’ve read so much about getting the balance right of quantity vs quality and that seems the perfect amount! At age 37 I got 10 mature 7 fertlised and 6 x5 day blasts (one of which was my son) so I’d say you are in for a great chance at your age but it really does only take the one ☝️ 💜🤗 best of luck to you! xx
I had 7 with one making it to blast at 2BB grading. I thought it was the end of the world. But babe stuck! It is so easy to fall in to the numbers game and so easy being on the other side of it to say “you only need one” but you really do! Here 24 weeks pregnant. Good luck and wishing you all the VERY best! ❤️
FWIW, my wife (39) had her 1st OPU last Feb 2024. 4 eggs were retrieved. 3 fertilized and made to day 3. 2 (4AA and 3AA) made it to day 5 blastocyst.
The 4AA one was transferred to her a few weeks ago but did not implant I don't want to discourage the OP but I just wanted to share. We're still hoping that the remaining 3AA one is the one when we have it transferred next month.
I probably sound like a broken record as I keep replying something similar on here!… on first cycle I got 33 eggs, 24 mature, all fertilised but only 1 average quality and ultimately unsuccessful blast. Then I fell pregnant naturally just before 2nd cycle due to start! Makes me think quality over quantity might be a factor 😃
I had my last egg collection in May a week before my 44th birthday, 10 eggs collected, 8 mature and 6 fertilized, all 6 divided well and frozen on day 3. Had FET a few weeks ago and miraculously BFP, now anxiously awaiting a scan. Of course the odds are against me, less than 5 percent chance of it working at my age, but if I can somehow get this far at my age, then you have every chance and much much More with 9 eggs. It’s so hard at every stage isn’t it, questioning it and worrying but as my co-ordinator at my Clinic in Cyprus has repeatedly said to me especially after my last failed cycle with them, it only takes one golden egg so keep as strong as you can and hold to hope. Wishing you soo much luck and peace for the next few days.
Always soo much love to everyone going through this journey , thinking of you all.xxx
no they didn’t but I think I didn’t get on with the fresh transfer and the medicated - my third was a natural cycle transfer and I had a scratch alongside a ton of probiotics . My worst grade C embryo was a little fighter . Grading also can change so don’t get hung up on that either they are changing constantly and can improve in a matter of hours xxx
That’s amazing news! Out of mine I got 2 fertilised well but that’s all I needed as my fresh resulted in chemical and my frozen was a success. Good luck with your transfer xx
Hi, I had 9 eggs collected, 7 mature, all fertilised and 5 made it to day 5, currently 20 weeks pregnant with the fresh transfer, so you've definitely got good chances there 🙂x
Hey, I got 9 eggs on my first retrieval, and only 1 made it to blastocyst, I had a fresh transfer with it, and it stuck, my little boy is now 2! But I was definitely disappointed that only 1 made it to blastocyst, and very anxious about it not working etc...
9 is a high number. Remember more eggs dosent mean higher chance you'll have more on day 5 or have good quality. Lower numbers can be a good thing, a fertility specialist will tell you that. Quality over quantity. The lower number means more is focused on quality than just pumping out immature eggs.I'm 38, was expected to respond well but in end only got 4 eggs. 4 mature, one didnt fertilised correctly. 3 made it to blast. I'm due baby next week. Don't focus on numbers sweetheart, there's so much more at process than just egg numbers
I've just turned 39 and my first baseline scan for this round only showed 5 follicles (whereas I had 7 last time). Reading your story has given me a little but of hope again! Next scan is on friday so keeping everything crossed the 5 are growing nicely! Congratulations and good luck xx
Hope it goes well. Just remember you only need one. It's such a stressful time not knowing the outcome but my advice is just trust the process. I drove myself absolutely crazy with worry thinking none would make it to blast , nevermind one successfully take. Try to relax as much as you can. I have pcos and endo which I knew would make getting good quality eggs difficult and make it harder to implant . Our quality embryos weren't great either one was 5cb other was 3cc, last one we couldnt freeze due to poor freezing grade which we were told was likely down to age and having pcos so we put two embryos in given that but our chances with both were 20% .
I always say if ivf worked for us then there's hope for anyone. Don't give up. This is our first baby, we tried for 18 years before ivf . Tried everything else over the years, medication, procedures ect ivf was a last resort .
Definitely feels very surreal that it worked. I still have difficulty believing it.
