IVF at 41 first round

Hello there, I'm 41 and unsure about starting IVF - the NHS has offered us one cycle. I'm scared about the emotional roller coaster and how the meds will affect me... Just wondering if anyone has had any success in their first attempt over 40s? For what I read here it seems unlikely but of course every person is different... Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi there I know exactly how you feel but I got a lot of honesty and support from this forum when I first started which was a big help. You are a couple of years younger than me as I was 43 when we started so missed my chance of using the nhs and had to go private.

I remember after our first consultation how shocked I was at the odds of success they gave us for using my own eggs and I then had to accept and learn about using donor eggs as that would give us a better chance of success. We have since had 2 attempts but sadly neither were successful but we’ve not given up yet and will be trying again later this year.

It’s certainly a rollercoaster but it all starts with the egg and you just need 1 good one to succeed so try not to worry about your age as my consultant said that’s a small factor and it’s all about getting the right cycle of treatment your comfortable with and looking after yourself.

There are lots of ladies who’ve had success on here and although it’s an emotional rollercoaster if we support each other we can get through it so if you’ve any questions just ask away and good luck with everything x

Hi Mightdoit , I was in the same boat as you last year. My first round NHS funded. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a positive result. It can be a lot but I wish you ❤️ and courage in whatever next step you take. I’ve recently completed a self funded second route (negative) but the process is all fresh in my head so please feel free to PM.

Hi Hidden , if you mean the first consultation, then I think he was there yes as they usually chat you through the process, and then give you loads of forms.

Hi. I started IVF at 41 and was very lucky that I got pregnant on the first cycle. She came early 5 days before my 43rd birthday!

Good luck x

Hi there! I’m currently 41 and 6 weeks pregnant. Early days but I wanted to share some positive news. We had 1 cycle which I started at 39. We got 6 embryos from it which means up to 6 transfers. This all counts as 1 cycle. Best of luck with it x
