Trying to recover from flu at 26 weeks- help!

Hi everyone,

I hope everyone’s journey is going smoothly.

I’ve really struggled this year with illnesses, despite having the flu and covid jabs in November. My toddler is bringing every illness back from nursery and I am just picking up everything 😩🙈

In January he had a bad virus/cough and so was up for hours each night keeping me up, then the following week when he was better I caught it and felt really rough especially after a week of no sleep. He then had a bad cold which caused him to wake early every day, again waking me and then I got the cold. It’s just been a cycle and I feel like I’m constantly run down. Then two weeks ago he was really poorly and had a high temperature which wouldn’t go down. The following week I caught the flu. I had a temperature of 38.5, and couldn’t get out of bed for a few days. I feel like things are getting better now, but I’m just not ‘well’ still. I have a full night sleep, get up to drop my son at nursery but then have to go straight back to bed and sleep till lunchtime. I’m still really blocked up and have a cough. I just feel completely wiped out, I’m so exhausted but also feel really depressed as I can’t do anything at the moment. This is just over a week after symptoms started.

Can anyone tell me is this normal? How long does it take to recover? Any tips for speedy recovery!? Does this impact the baby?

Thanks everyone xxx

Hi there! I just had a bad flu at 26-27 weeks, also despite having a vaccine. Ended up with antibiotics as well as my cough wasn’t clearing after all other symptoms were gone. After that I was feeeling SO exhausted that I was crying.

However, the baby was totally fine as I had my 28 weeks appointment right after and a private scan just for a peace of mind. Finally, at 30 weeks and now my energy is creeping back up and I feel pretty much good (for 3rd trimester lol).

Don’t panic and take rest where possible to help your body to recover - the worst part is over! Stay well xx

Thanks for taking the time to reply. That’s reassuring to know. I just can’t believe how awful and exhausted I feel all the time, it’s really knocked me out. Looking forward to feeling a bit better.

Hope all continues well for you and baby xxx

Best to rest when you can especially while little one at nursery Drink plenty of fluids - eat little and often If nose blocked try a steamy shower/bath or a steam inhalation [ basin hot water + towel over head then couple of deep breaths ] Honey + lemon drinks can help if throat sore Has cough lasted a week or so ? Might be an idea to see GP to be on the safe side

Hope you feel better soon
