hey- my risk of downs came back as high due to my age and my HCG being massively over at 6 MoM. The follow up NIPT showed low risk thankfully but I then wondered what the out of range HCG levels meant on their own (my other bloods were fine) so asked my consultant and he said ‘nothing really’ those levels might just be normal for you as everyone is different with HCG. He said if it had been the Papp-A etc that was out of range that can indicate other things even if the trisomy’s okay but that they didn’t have any evidence that HCG levels on their own indicates anything in particular obviously being massively over is an indicator of downs but they had ruled that out with a high degree of confidence with the NIPT. I’m not sure if you are going to be consultant led but if so I would ask them for peace of mind or your midwife at the next appointment but yours is very very close to normal range so I wouldn’t worry too much 🤗 but I felt much better after I asked them xx
Thanks so much for your reply. I’m hoping it’s just a normal variation . The front of the letter just said no further action but I’ve then googled all the individual results and found some papers that say low free beta hcg can be a problem. But the hospital didn’t mention or flag it. Thanks tho I’m going to ask my midwife at next appointment!
Yeah google was alarming for me too! Wish I hadn’t even looked but we all do it. After I chatted to the consultant I felt much much better and stopped looking at google (for that anyways 🤣) xx
