Brown spotting… again. Never a dull day or a lack of something to worry about.

I’m 12weeks today and this morning I had another dreaded experience with a small amount of brown spotting.

There was some there a couple of times after (I obsessively went to the loo many times after seeing it) however now it seems to have stopped.

Am I right that if it’s just a a little bit of brown discharge/ spotting and it doesn’t escalate and eventually stops that it’s likely nothing to be worried about?

I have had it a few times in the past but put it down to cervix agitation due to pessaries, but I’m off those now. I wonder if a lot has gone on with me hormonally over the last few days as I’ve felt extra rough. I don’t know… but the worry it produces is unnerving.

I know some of our group have had to experience bleeding throughout their pregnancy, and this may seem like nothing. But I find these moments quite stressful and it really breaks my bubble.

I tried to ring the midwife but no answer, will try again later.

Has anyone else experienced this at around this stage?

I have one week to wait until my next scan. Hoping all is well!

Sending lots of best wishes out to you all. This experience is so up and down isn’t it!

call your clinic and see if they can see you earlier or for some reassurance, did they say anything at your other scans was there any sign of haematoma.

Ohh I feel this stress! I hate when this happens - even though it is most likely fine, I can so relate to the freakout.

I am a few weeks behind you and I have had brown spotting on and off a lot. I have had 3 scans to make sure all is OK and so far, it is. The doctor told me as you said - if it is just light spotting and doesn't escalate it is probably fine. She said there are many reasons it can happen, such as hormones generally making the cervix more sensitivs and prone to bleeding. But she also told me I did the right thing by coming in to get checked - so you are doing the right thing by calling the midwife! She also said there is generally more chance of spotting/bleeding with IVF pregnancies but they aren't sure why.

Chances are you are probably fine. But def worth speaking to the midwife!

Hi. Perhaps need to keep an eye on the placenta being a bit low? Spotting is a nightmare and can stop and start throughout. Drink plenty of water too. Good luck. Diane

I managed to get hold of the midwife and they said as it’s not a lot and isn’t on the pad, just when I wipe a little, to monitor and call back if I have any concerns or pain.

So I will see what happens tonight / tomorrow.

Had a tiny bit more just now but not worse.

Thanks so much for your replies. It’s all a bit of a slog of worrying this pregnancy madness isn’t it 🙈

X

To provide some update, I ended up seeing the midwife for bloods and I showed her I pic of what I experienced and she reassured me that it was fine, so I am for now taking her word for it and trying to relax. They wouldn’t scan me as they said it wasn’t fresh blood. I have a scan next week so am hoping that this turns out ok 🤞. I really appreciate the kind words of reassurance and support.

Hope you’re all doing ok x

Little update incase anyone stumbles upon this post with similar issues.

After first getting some reassurance over the phone I was able to see the midwife at the end of the week that I had the spotting (because I had to get some blood tests done) and I took the opportunity to show her a photo (I always take photos of anything weird) and she reassured me it was fine.

A few days later on the Saturday it became more pink, I freaked and because it was out of hours I had to call the out of hours emergency midwife and they said I should go to A&E! I’d again taken photos and spent 4 hours in A&E to be told it was fine once they looked at the photos. They wouldn’t do anything else or scan me and said I needed to wait to my scan on the following Friday. (A&E Saturday night, Fun 🙈)!

They insisted if it wasn’t red, like a cut, that I should not worry, even pink. (Also for the record we know from some posts here that even red doesn’t mean game over, lots of woman have that here and go in to have healthy pregnancies and babies, but that’s more of a deffo get checked out situation).

Anyways, after a bit of an agonising week with a couple more brief moments of brown or pink spotting that mostly only lasted one wipe or so I had my scan on Friday. And all was well!!!! They couldn’t see any cause for the bleeding, and no low lying placenta or anything like that. It’s possible it was cervix agitation or something like that. Who knows!

They said I was 13 weeks, just what I expected and it was a real relief.

So I’m gonna put it in the category or weird and unnerving but nothing to worry about, and if it happens again I will just keep monitoring and will call the mid wife if I get more concerned. And now I really am gonna try and chill out a bit and allow myself to be more hopeful. It’s been hard for me to believe that things could be ok after all that’s happened and all the worry and let down that can come with a difficult fertility journey full of disappointment. You can become used to it and almost expect it as a protective mechanism I think.

But now I’m gonna try to believe it’s real and that certainly today, in this moment all is well. :-)

Also, I am starting to find some of that first trimester sickness and feeling very rough may be slightly lifting. Which helps with my general mood.

Big love to you all and thanks for the support so far!

And for anyone spotting brown or pink, try to hang in there, it can be normal, take a snap, and call your clinic or midwife! So many women have contacted me about their spotting and it can be just part of some people’s pregnancy. It’s unnerving but doesn’t mean the worse. Xxxx
