I’m at 12 weeks and have been putting off getting the Covid booster/ winter jab that’s offered because I am so worried about miscarriage. I have been fully vaccinated to date and believe in the jab (i know opinions differ on this).
I’m not so worried about implications for the development of the baby - I trust the NHS advice on this (although I know there are women who are concerned about it), but I am terrified of getting a fever as a side effect of the jab (listed as common on the NHS site and something I’ve had with previous Covid jabs) and the fever causing miscarriage.
tuesday (31st Jan) is literally the LAST day I can get the jab in my area and I really want to get it (better for me and for baby) but don’t know if I could live with myself if I then get sick and miscarry.
I guess I’m hoping some of you have had the jab in pregnancy/ early pregnancy and not had problems? I’d love to hear just by way of reassurance.
Hey! I had my flu jab and covid booster at my 12 week scan and went on to work 3 night shifts and felt perfectly fine! Bar a very ache arm (from the flu jab!) Xx
I didn't have a fever with my covid jab. I had it around 13 weeks I think.
I was nervous too - even though I am pro-vaccine.
I just couldn't imagine the stress of being pregnant unvaccinated...
I had all 3 of mine pregnant (2021/2022). First at 13 weeks. No fever for any of them. In the original pilot study pregnant women were less likely to have fever but more likely to have a sore arm vs non-pregnant, probably due to the way pregnancy affects the immune system. Xx
I had mine at 12 weeks. Had a sore arm and a bit of a headache the next day but other than that, all fine. I worried about it too but was glad to have it given how many people have covid again at the moment!
Despite having my booster I caught covid at 22 weeks and I felt really unwell for a week - I can’t imagine how much worse it could have been if I hadn’t had my booster. The midwife recommended having it - that was good enough for me. I get your concerns but you’d likely be more unwell without it if you did catch covid. My midwife told me babies are really tough and it’s only us who get ill while they’re all cosy and safe inside (I was worried when I had covid if the baby would be ok and I also had food poisoning when I was about 12 weeks but baby is absolutely fine). Don’t know if that helps but personally I think it’s safer to have it than to not. Good luck! Xx
yep I had it around 12 weeks, no fever just an achey arm. I had my flu vaccine at about 9 weeks too x
I had covid booster at 13 weeks and flu booster at 14 if I remember rightly. I had one day of headache and tiredness after covid but no fever. The way I see it a mild reaction to a jab is much better than risking covid for me or the baby. I know it’s a worry but millions of women have had it now so deep breaths and go for it x
Had covid booster when I was about 4.5mnths pregnant - basically as soon as I was eligible as didn't want to risk getting covid. Hadn't had a reaction to the two prior jabs but on that third one within hours I did feel like I had a really bad cold coming on - aches, high temp, dizziness etc, and think it was because it was a different brand and/or I had built up immunity through the prior jabs (apparently that's meant to be a good thing as it's like your immune system reacting to neutralise the threat). It lasted less than 24hrs and was manageable with paracetamol. Much better than having covid (as I found out later). I also had the flu jab whilst pregnant. We've since all had covid and my LG got over it within a day and I like to think she got some of the immunity passed on from the vaccine.
thanks everyone! I went down today and got both jabs - flu and Covid. It was really assuring to hear all your stories. Thank you!
