Clexane injections

I’m now almost 18 weeks pregnant and my belly is getting bigger and going hard. The last few days, clexane injections have been so so painful!! I spoke to my midwife today who said I should keep injecting into my belly. If there is anyone else further along who is using Clexane injections, if you’ve got any advice it would be greatly appreciated! I am already icing the area beforehand. ☹️

hi Emlou, I was on the injections in my first and last trimester and I found found them quite stingy as the weeks went on, especially on the left side of my belly button.

I didn’t find any specific way to inject that helped with the pain but i did change how I injected to be more at a slant (which was recommended by the midwife) as my tummy got bigger. I’d been injecting directly down into my tummy.

It helped to pinch the skin but you’ll probably be doing that anyway. Just remember not to touch your tummy after as it can cause bruising and make it more painful next time.

Try to remember it’s only temporary, and will be worth it in the end :)

thank you! I’m injecting straight in so will try at a slant. Oh, it’s totally worth it 😍🥰

Hey I have exactly the same problem. I wasn't sure if it was ok or not (but just read M_fox's message and sounds like it is!) but I have started doing them at more of an angle and I have found that a lot less painful - I think cos they aren't going in so far? I am also trying to spread it around a much larger area of my stomach (going higher up) than I have. I think so much of our stomachs are now bruised that even if they aren't purple still there is still that soreness there - or at least thats what I have found! I find I bleed a lot more after the jabs too and sometimes take 3 goes to get it in because my skin feels a lot tougher! Not complaining though if it keeps little one going! Good luck xx

I met with my obstetrician on Thurs. he said I can also inject into the front of the thigh. He suggested rotating 4 ways, belly, belly, thigh, thigh. I’m yet to try this though as I’m scared it will be worse than the belly 😂

thanks so much for the tip! Will see if i am brave enough to try my thigh! 🤣 sounds painful! x

Hi Emlou. Oh dear this can be pretty miserable. when you inject, push the needle in very slowly, then inject slowly and put the needle slowly. This should lessen any bruising. I always inject in a "smile" pattern from side to side under the belly button. Good luck! Hope you are reading to little one each night, both of you, as the hearing is acute now, so that he/she gets to know your voice. You will be amazed how quickly he/she opens his/her eyes when handed to you or your partner after birth.
