hi everyone has anyone suffered or read much about ohss during pregnancy? I went for a scan yesterday 6w+4 everything seems fine baby measured 6w+3 🫶🏽🌈 but I’m suffering from ohss my ovaries r massive and full of follicles. My stomach is so swollen and tight. It’s manageable but just wondering if I can do anything…. I’m not in pain just a little uncomfortable. I was enjoying the swollen stomach thinking it could be baby. Obviously I have got lost in google and now slightly worried.

Thank you in advance x x

Hi Hopedream I had mild ohss, my ovaries were painful and I was uncomfortably bloated until around 10 weeks pregnant. All you can do is drink lots of water more than usual as this will help you recover quicker. Hope your feeling better soon.

thanks you starsallaround, does the follicles eventually just shrink? X x

Yes they will shirnk back to normal size, my understanding is that it is due to excess fluid which will eventually drain away.

Hopedream Was just reading your post about OHSS and hope you are doing ok now? I was just wondering did you have estrogen levels checked after egg retrieval or before transfer? Xx

hi Hopedream, I had moderate/severe late onset OHSS cause by the HCG from the pregnancy. I had 3/4 litres of fluid in my abdomen and lungs and ovaries measured 10-12cm and I was in agony - I looked 6 months pregnant!! Ended up bedbound for 2 weeks and unable to sleep flat for another 4 weeks. Thankfully things did resolve on their own it just took time! By 10 weeks the fluid all self resolved and on the 12 week NHS scan it just showed that my ovaries were still enlarged but no longer causing any pain.

As the previous poster said, drinks lots of fluids - I was drinking 3/4 litres of water a day and also drinking electrolyte drinks like lucozade sport and coconut water. Increase protein intake too this can also help. Things will settle it will just take time and good news is it won’t affect the pregnancy - I am currently 22 weeks now 🤗 all the best xx

Hi! I had this from about 2-3 weeks and I ended up getting blood thinner injections. I was so swollen and uncomfortable it was horrible. The injections worked quite fast and I was also told to drink 3 litres a day including isotonic sports drinks. My ovaries are still enlarged and will likely stay that way until after the pregnancy. Hope you get yours sorted, it’s so unpleasant xx
