5+6 weeks pregnant, yolk sac detected on ultrasound but no heartbeat 💔

Hi ladies, so after we decided to give up on ivf, I fell pregnant naturally at age 40. My hcg levels were 9767 yesterday (they doubled in 48 hours). We went for an early scan today, doctor said I'm possibly having a miscarriage, because he couldn't detect a heartbeat and I have been spotting very lightly during the past 5 days (that's why I went for an early scan). He said I'm 5weeks 6 days pregnant and with an hcg higher than 10000 (I should have reached 13000 today) we should hear a heartbeat! I know it's still too early for a heartbeat and i honestly went to see him just to check the spotting and see if i needed any support with medication! I didn't expect him to tell me that i'm possibly miscarrying 💔😔 Anyone had the same situation and ended up with a healthy pregnancy?

That's not always the case. Seeing a heartbeat under 6wks isn't always the norm as you know. In fact I've seen quite a few ladies here in the same situation and all is ok. I cant correlate the hCG but you are defo in with a shout. Massive hugs, what a tough day!! Good luck.xx

Yes, tough day indeed. I hope everything will turn out to be ok next week during our 2nd scan. Thanks for your support! Big hugs your way xx

Hi lovely, I agree with Cinderella - it seems very early for a heartbeat, regardless of the hcg level - but of course I’m not a doctor.Have they advised you to repeat the scan next week? And what about your spotting?

Xxx

Hi lovely mama ❤️❤️ Yes it does seem very early that's why I was shocked when the doctor mentioned miscarriage. He will do another scan next week i guess i'll be 6 weeks 4 days 🤞As for the spotting it's really very light brown only when i wipe been spotting since Saturday, had backache for 2 days but no cramps.

It sounds like he / she were being a little bit preemptive saying that. I know they like to prepare you for the worst but I wouldn’t say those were classic signs of miscarriage,Everything crossed for you xxx

Hello lovely! I cannot comment on the HCG levels, but after my last IVF transfer, I had a scan nearly at 7 weeks (can't remember exactly if it was 6+4 or 6+5) and they couldn't see a heartbeat. I had to go back a week later (it was nerve-wracking, as you can imagine!) and there it was! I am currently 37 weeks pregnant. I have also had bleeding throughout my whole pregnancy. This is my 6th pregnancy (no baby yet!) so I was expecting the worst.I hope my story gives you some hope. I will be thinking of you this week and keeping my fingers crossed for you. Love xx

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, lovely. Please keep us posted. Hugs to you too! xx

Well that’s weird he’d give that advice. I went for a scan at 5+5 and all they could see was a yolk sac - I was booked in then for 7.5 and the embryo was there - there was definitely no heartbeat at the first scan. I can’t see why if you have high HCG he’d say you’re possibly having a miscarriage 🤔 puzzling - bad sonographer?

Exactly that's why i'm in shock! But I read on some websites that high hcg levels determine the size of the sac and at a certain size we should start seeing the embryo (fetal pole). Maybe this is what confused the doctor, that my sac reached a size where we should see the fetal pole 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'll keep my fingers crossed for next week 🤞

I really hope it turns around for you (if indeed it needs to) I’ll have everything crossed for you as well next week 🤞

Just wanted to echo what others have said. I can’t comment on the HCG levels but I was always told the heart starts to beat somewhere in the sixth week, which is why clinics normally wait until 7 weeks to do a viability scan as any earlier and it can be just too early! Got everything crossed for good news at your next scan xxx

Thank you! I wish I didn't go to the clinic that early, but I had to check the spotting. Keeping my fingers crossed
