8 weeks - constant palpitations

Hi everyone. It feels strange to even be able to write in this forum so I don’t want to sound like I’m complaining either. Just wondering if anyone has some advice.

I’m 8 weeks, 1 day today. For the last week or so, I’ve had runs of palpitations. Some are kind of fine just light a fluttering, then others see more like a big thump that’s kind of alarming. I had them on my first daughter and after a lot of investigations I was told they were benign (just v annoying) and to take a beta blocker.

This time, I went to my GP on Tuesday and he kind of shrugged his shoulders and said I can’t take anythign and it’s probably the hormones (I figured thay). I went away a bit unhappy but just hoped they’d settle in time. Then last night they were pretty bad over night. With the bad ones I felt nauseous, dizzy and a bit weak. I’ve taken today off work. I can’t get back to see my GP now till next Thursday.

Sorry for the long post. I’m just wondering if this is something I should get checked before the weekend. Would the maternity hospital see me with something like this?

I think you can go to the EPU and tell them how you are feeling, particularly when the palpitations are happening as they will be able to check what they look like and your blood pressure. I feel GPs tend to have the same response for any symptoms during the pregnancy and go by the list of safe/not safe in pregnancy when it comes to medication. Personally, I would keep insisting or go to EPU. Better safe than sorry!

Hi Nina. So frrustrating for you. Maybe when you see your GP next week, hje/she will order an ECG just for peace of mind. Make sure you drink plenty of water as your body needs extra fluid to help with increased blood supply at this time. Hope all soon settles. Diane
