So for a couple of weeks now I’ve been having what I’d describe as period pain. Are these a type of Braxton Hicks? Or is it because I have a lot of pelvic pressure and pain some days that it brings it on? I just went for a walk that I knew was going to be tough today because of the pelvic pressure - and after sitting down when I returned I had long stretches of what feels like period pain but that were coming and going.
Anyone else?

Are you on the NCT forum? You might get more answers on there. All I can say is I've had really bad round ligament pain throughout - these are in very specific places around the sides and bottom of the bump and stabbing/aching so sound different to what you're describing - and only very recently a few episodes of what is more like period pains, spreading from the back. These latter ones scared me a bit as I believe these are more what labour can feel like but no baby so possibly false labour... I haven't had Braxton Hicks I don't think although I've been looking out for these - I understand these are more like a hardening/cramping and can come and go but they shouldn't be painful so different to the other things I've been experiencing. When I asked my midwife about the period pain type episodes she sort of shrugged and said there's a lot going on with the body at this stage and could be lots of things, and not to worry re early labour and although I was skeptical, she's been right so far. Can you ask your midwife to be safe?
I’ve also had stabbing pains that I put down to round ligament pains. I kind of already asked the midwife and she said baby’s head is down and pressing on the pelvis and probably causing all the different pains. Thing is I have them one day and I don’t have them again and I read about the tightening as braxton hicks more than this but at the same time I can imagine my labour pains will start like period pains. Thinking then… maybe it’s just early practice pains. I see the midwife on Tuesday so I’ll ask then. Thanks for the tip on nct - im not on there.
As a midwife myself I'd absolutely make a call to the maternity ward if the pain comes and goes with some regularity (for example 30-60 seconds every 10-15 minutes or more frequently. They could be BH contractions, but BH contractions shouldn't give you pain, so it would be good to go check your cervix to rule out a potential preterm labour.
Thank you, to be honest I haven’t had it really since that day and it was after a walk which I’m struggling with due to pelvic pain and pulling down there I think because the babies head is down. It represented dull ache period pain that didn’t come and go - it was mainly just there for the evening. I’m seeing my midwife tomorrow so I will mention it then. I’m just wondering if when I get that pulling when I stand I shouldn’t over do it and go walking as some days it’s worse than others. But thanks for the heads up now I’ll take it a bit more seriously and definitely mention it tomorrow.
