Reversed!!

6 months ago I was upset that my fatty liver got worse on my ultrasound with losing weight and healthier eating.I was determined to try again and even harder and my MRI and fibroscan showed no fatty liver! My cholesterol did increase though the only bummer and I’m so confused on how since I eat no carbs, no processed food, cut out seed oils and the last 30 days no fruit or sugar.I also strength train lifting 10 pound weights for 30 minutes 3 to 4 days a week.I do eat low fat cottage cheese and fat free Greek yogurt and feta regularly and shrimp on sat as a treat. Not sure if that could have increased my cholesterol.Regardless it’s reversed and I even allowed cheat days these last 6 months for vacations and special occasions.I feel the strength training and reducing carbs is what really helped this time.Ive been struggling for three years trying to fix this and finallly was able to with strength training and low carb diet.🎉🎉🎉I had stage 1 when they found it due to alt and ast being very high on bloodwork and then the fatty liver kept increasing after each ultrasound and fibroscan to stage 2 even with healthier diet and losing weight. My weight was 205 and now down to 156 over the last year.Exercised regularly for years and could not get the weight off until I started strength training.

weight training is really a key that most people don't do, kudos to you. It sounds like you may be on a Keto diet. What is the fat content of your diet like? You might need to cut down on saturated fat and add unsaturated fat but that's just guessing from your note.

I eat salmon, chicken and lots of veggies.I have an avacado everyday and only use avacado oil or olive oil and low fat cheese which as cottage cheese on Fridays to make pizza crust and also a little feta on my salad or fresh shaved parmesion.I have hummus or guacamole and celery sticks and sugar snap peas and red bell pepper slices as snack.I do have a tablespoon of peanut butter with no seed oil or added oils every day in non fat Greek yogurt with chia seeds and pumpkin seeds.Cholestrol increased from 182 to 225 which is significant in 6 months. Not sure what I could be doing that would increase it like that.

What a fab diet well done. I eat 95% Mediterranean diet but do eat wholemeal wraps occasionally. I eat lots of fruit mainly black grapes which probably isn’t good! Olives with feta cheese most days, only use olive oil, fat free Greek yogart and started drinking kefir. I could improve my diet even more but l do like the odd naughty as I’m 73 and at my age l want to enjoy life. I do lift weights 3 times a week. I’m due a fibroscan shortly and hope my fatty liver has improved. I’m not overweight but needed to improve what l ate.

Hard to guess as you seem to be doing great. I did find that my cholesterol lowered after I started adding a tablespoon of fish oil daily for whatever that may be worth. If it continues, you should be able to manage it with a statin so you might talk with your doc about that.

Do you think fish oil capsules like Omegabrite would serve the same purpose? Easier to get down!

Any good source is fine. The issue I've had with capsules is fish burps. The capsule oils often sit around and get rancid which causes the problem. I prefer fresh oil personally. A good quality oil isn't hard to take for me anyway.

No oatmeal at all.High in carbs.I ate carbs but only for special occasions or on vacation.Other then that I had no pasta, oats, rice, bread.I did have low carb wassa sourdough crackers as snack with some avacado or grilled chicken with redo onion and arugula. Those are low carb and also had firecook crackers as well.

Wow!!! Amazing I’m so happy for you. I’m going to cut back on carbs and see if that helps me.

Also cut out all fructose. It makes your liver work harder.
