Improvement/near reversal

For the last few months i have been battling fatty liver disease. With pain in my ruq and back

In late October an ultrasound scan gave me diagnosis of fatty swolen liver (slight hepotamegally). I have since lost 80 lbs in weight (some would say too quickly but i was scared and it came off quite easily) and am now at the top end of my healthy BMI. The idea was if i kept burning body fat then sooner or later the liver fat would go.

Today I did the fib 4 test (as advised to do on this page months ago)and my result is 0.46 so i think that is good?

I also had an ultrasound last week which showed only a small 2 1/2 inch patch of fat remains on my liver following diet and weightloss so that is also an improvement.

My RUQ flank and shoulderblade pain remains which is still a concern and will have to remain a mystery, atleast until i see a GI in April. In the mean time i think my next move is to lose a bit more weight and push my GP for a fibroscan.

Thanks all 👍🏼👍🏼

Marvelous. Thanks for sharing. Weight loss is key and you've done a great job. The RUQ pain is probably associate with Glisson's Capsule, the tough outer covering of the liver. The liver itself has no nerves but the capsule has plenty so when you have enlargement or physical changes it can stress the capsule resulting in pain. It is very individual and depending on your body might remain even with good improvement in the liver. It is a secondary issue so the measure of your liver health will come from the Fibroscan or other testing so that RUQ pain is something to deal with but unless it is getting worse doesn't tell you much.

Thanks, yep weightloss was the key.

With the experience

Id say the solution was 80% of it is weightloss and 20% was the strict low carb/sugar diet.

This is a good news story but constant back pain is awful ...improvement must be possible with loss of fat from the liver? I have read that for most the pain goes away?

Yoga and exercise helps with the back pain. Staying limber and also strengthening deep core muscles. Try chair yoga.

That's great, well done to you!! Take care Lynne
