Finally figured out what kind of ultrasound I had and it’s called a UGAP.
I have a bad gallbladder—sludge, stones, dilated duct—so I’ve had several standard ultrasounds and as of 2019, I did not have a fatty liver.
Fast forward to 2023, I was getting an ultrasound for the gallbladder again and they added on this UGAP which showed high moderate to borderline severe fatty liver. I’m extremely overweight so I’m not surprised that I have fatty liver, but I thought these things took time and 4 years seems pretty quick to get to almost severe!
My question—-is anyone familiar with this UGAP? I tried to find out if it’s accurate because I know the Fibroscan overestimates severity in bmi>30. All I can see online is that UGAP closely correlated with the CAP score which to my mind now means it possibly does overestimate.
Can’t get any other tests approved through insurance because all of my numbers are and always have been good which, you know, great, I guess? So long as I’m not going silently cirrhotic with my 20 ALT. 🙄
I guess it doesn’t matter because I most definitely need to keep losing weight anyway (down 57 since January eating a well balanced liver friendly diet and moving a lot more), and I will continue because I remain scared to death, but does anyone knows if this UGAP overestimates in the obese like the Fibroscan?
