Hi all,
Does anybody know which type of imaging test (ultrasound, MRI, CT scan) is the most accurate for assessing how well or poorly blood is flowing through the portal vein?
Thanks in advance,
Terry

I believe it’s Ultrasound that is best for blood flow. I’ve had that done about 4 times, due to DVT.
I think the MRI and CT scan are for bone and or organ scans.
Possibly we can get an additional opinion on that.
They use a doppler ultrasound for blood flow. It measures both volume and direction of flow
Ok, thanks. But, can the portal vein be detected/assessed on a standard ultrasound? Also, would ascites be detected on a standard ultrasound?
